Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I would do it, just make sure that the finish matches the factory finish so it does not look like a repair job.
Leading evidence: 'Repair job' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair job' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

so i am taking my car to the bodyshop to get MKII skirts painted and installed. i was thinking that while i am there, maybe i should get the front hood repainted? it has quite a number of rock chips on it.
what are your opinions on that? the car is 2003, so its only 5 years old. sure original paint is valuable, but rock chips are not.
what are some major pros vs. cons? would you do it?
I live in Canada and drive my car 12 months of the year. For me a hood/bumper re-spray is kind of like spring maintenance.
If you're confident that the shop you're using will do the right job of masking and protecting the rest of the car then I say do it.
My 2 cents.
Cheers,
Stan
I had mine done due to a large rock chip. My previous 996 had Vesuvio Metallic paint and the match was perfect. I'm going to have my aero kit installed soon on my current 996 and I will have the hood repainted to get rid of the small rock chips.
I wouldn't hesitate. As a buyer, I'd much rather have a nicely painted hood than OEM that's chipped up.
There's nothing special about OEM paint especially since the watercooled cars won't be collector's cars ANYTIME soon.
Do it.. Best way I have found is for the shop to take the bumper off to spray. Same thing for the hood. Much better than dealing with overspray no matter how well they tape up.
Had mine done and absolutely no regrets. When the front end acquires too many rock chips, I'll certainly have it done again.
Like every so far has mentionned find a quality paint shop that knows how to put together your factory color and it should come out perfectly.

I have never done a hood, but I had my current bumper and the bumper on the Boxster S I had resprayed. I don't think anyone could ever tell, the match was great.
Best thing, no license plate holes, filled them when they painted!!
After you get the car done, let it sit for 2 weeks to 30 days, then have Premiere Mobile come out and put a custom clear bra on. Barring collision with something that would've been bad enough to cause a big chip/dent anyway, the front will stay pristine forever. They're up in your area and they do a fantastic job.
