Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is the first time I have posted in a forum I usually just surf around looking at tech articles. I read everything about the dreaded IMS issues but really thought I will get to it when I get to it.
I changed the oil in my 99 C2 and saw some metal flake in the filter so I parked the car and started sourcing parts to do the IMS upgrade. I just pulled my bearing and when I shook it it sounded like a baby rattle. I pulled the seals and found the ***** chewed up and both races were cracked. after playing with the bearing it just fell apart in my hand. I think i was about 5 mins from a major motor meltdown.
I am so glad i found this forum! I have only owned the car for 4 months and almost had a garage decoration.
I changed the bearing myself dropping the trans so far nothing has been too hard. The bearing tools worked great.
While I am tearing stuff down I also changed the water pump and AOS and added a magnetic drain plug. I just wanted to post and say thank you to everyone involved in the IMS upgrade.
I will upload the pics tomorrow plus a pic of the car
An excellent catch!
Please upload any in-progress pix as well if you took any, I'm still debating how soon would I want to do this for the peace of mind, and if I will tackle it myself.
What's the mileage on your car?
After you post pictures of your car.
You'll do the right thing and report this failure to the proper authorities.

These are the posts that make me smile and have a real sense of accomplishment. Spreading the word and promoting awareness is tough; it opens us up to all sorts of controversy. Posts like this one quieten the opposition that think that it is all a myth.
Thanks for the post, but it sucks its your first one because within 24 hours I guarantee that some vendor hater will question your authenticity as a real person, with a real Porsche and that this bit of "salvation" actually occurred. Thats the reality with first time posters.
Thanks again, we had a great day today and this really topped it off for me!
BTW- that awesome bearing puller is a Raby design.. I built the first one with pieces from the hardware store and then Charles made it better :-)
Oh I guarantee I am a real person that did this job Jake any one who doubts it can come on over and I will show them the bearing. So anyone who reads this and doubts it I am in the Chicago land area come on by. Oh and anyone around Chicago that needs any help with this feel free to PM me. It was such a straight forward job I am thinking of doing it to other peoples cars for Snap On gift cards hahahaha. ims bearing i will do again aos i dont know that thing was a bear since I broke one of the squeeze connectors and had to pull all kinds of crap to replace the whole hose from one side of the motor to the other.
The car is finished. I have to admit I was sweating when i turned that key. Everything is perfect! So now that I have the battery reconnected I have the mileage 59,234.
