hmm, mabye the advice was more profit minded, like some of porsche's other advice, such as only fitting new front/rear spoilers in conjunction (things they've proved to be false because they later released models that came with only the front or rear, ala the 40th anniversary 911.)
Leading evidence: 'false' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'false' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace by the n1' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

What about just using 265/35/18s (which ARE available) instead of the 285/30/18s?

I know the tires have different characteristics, but I am only using these for the track on dry days.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I can't find the original Pilot Sports (with the big angular grooves) anywhere! I only need two rears (285/30/18). I'll even put on the Pilot Sport Ribs if I can find them. I spoke to someone at Michelin and they told me they would be available in six months! What kind of crap is that? I would just switch to Pirelli if it weren't for the fact that these tires last a LONG time.
If anyone knows where I can pick up a couple of these tires, please let me know.
I noticed that too, but Tire Rack sent me this email:
"Hello Paul,
Thank you for your inquiry to The Tire Rack. The only Michelin tire we currently carry in that size is the Pilot Sport RIB N1 which is a Porsche OE tire. It is not the same tire are the standard non-OE Pilot Sport. It has a different tread design and internal construction. Unfortunately, the Pilot Sport RIB is only available to Porsche dealers at this time. So, it doesn't look like we can help with your request at this time. Sorry we could not be of more help."
Is that bizarre or WHAT? I really want to get the original Pilot Sport with the angular grooves. This is ridiculous.
Thanks,
Neal
NO one sells the original pilot sports anymore
the Pilot Sport Rib is the successor to them, and is a superior tire for all the same purposes.
they are an excellent tire, and perhaps the best choice for a summer road tire.
Yeah, I was told that by Wheel Enhancement too, but Michelin told me otherwise. Either way, neither of these tires are available anywhere at the moment.
michelin may very well still produce them, but not for the USA market, not for New Porsche OEM Cert, and not for distrubutors.
the ribs are a superior evolution anyway
Leon,
mabye this only applies to winter tyres, as i've only read it in christophorus when they announce winter tyre combos
common sense says it could be a serious safety issue to use even different types of tyres, much less entirely different brands simultaneously on a vehicle.
especially in a 4WD car such as yours'?
I was assured by 2 different tire shops that it's no problem.
I know the tires have different characteristics, but I am only using these for the track on dry days. Never in the wet. The car is handling good so far...

stay safe
First the N0 are not produced anymore and have been replaced by the N1.
Right now the only way that you can obtain the tire is to order them thru your Porsche dealer.
I just went thru this whole scenero...and have communicated with Michelin, Tire Rack and PCNA
Seems that PCNA has been paying the airfreight to get the tires to this country and has dibs on all 285/30/18 Pilot Sport tires.
Bottom line is that it will cost you about $180 more thru your dealer, and may have to wait a week or so to get them.
They are a Great tire none the less
Mjones is correct, I just went through this. However my dealer gave me a discount, they got them in 2 days. Michelin is not making any friends with this situation.
...having developed a bubble on the right rear sidewall. So I need two Pilot Sport Ribs N1, and both Tire Rack and the dealership in STL are saying delivery is unknown. I'm thinking this could take months to sort out since I'm new to the que. If anyone has any leads, I'd appreciate a heads-up. I need the same size as above for an '04 coupe. TIA!
I ended up putting Pirelli P-Zero Rosso 285/30/18 tires on the rear. If these wear as nicely as the Michelin, I am not going back to the Pilot Sport. I still can't believe that Michelin is back-ordered for 6 months! They've upset many customers.
