Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I think reason the old ones did not work on the newer cars is that there is no place to hook up the vacum, but they will fit on the '02 cars.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have read that it doesn't, but howcome does the PSE fit all years? I am looking more for the sound of the non PSE 3.6L engine on my 3.4L 996. Can it be done?

POST 2Original post

There are two PSEs: the early version which will only fit on the 3.4L cars and the newer version which will fits on both the 3.6L and the 3.4L 996s. It sounds like you want you want the standard 3.6L exhaust on your 3.4L. I don't think this will make it sound like a standard exhaust 3.6L because many other factors, besides the exhaust, come in to play.

POST 3Original post

All of the exhaust is the same on all 996 (except Turbo and GT3) fit wise. The PSE was changed in design in '02. The difference is that the old version switch operated by vacum, and the newer one is an electronic valve. I think reason the old ones did not work on the newer cars is that there is no place to hook up the vacum, but they will fit on the '02 cars.
