Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently bought an '02 C2 CPO with 2800 miles on it. I got the car from a reputable local dealer, and in the last month, have driven about 1100 miles, some city streets, but mostly freeway or other open roads. Since I got the car, I've added about .75 liter of oil (0W-40, as the dealer recommends). Is this excessive for what is practically a new car? Will it taper off, or can I expect to continue to add oil at this rate, assuming no other problems? The manual suggests that oil consumption should slow slightly as the car is broken in, and I've also looked here and on some of the other internet sites for info about this issue. However, most of the oil-related posts I've found have to do with catastrophic problems of one sort or another, or involve selection of oil types, etc. Any info on the "normal" oil burn rate would be appreciated greatly. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

At 30K miles my 99 cab burns about 1 qt in 3000 miles. It used more when young but I don't remember how much. Your usage is not excessive for your mileage. If it never got any better I would not worry about it unless it was leaking out say the RMS.

POST 3Original post

From my experience with my 2002 996, this is normal. The rate that your little 996 will gulp oil will decrease with age.

POST 4Original post

My 2001 C4 ( 16K miles ) burns 0.8 quart / 2200 miles. Acceptable according to Porsche techs. Oil is burn't on start up - no RMS issues

POST 5Original post

If you drive it hard you will use more oil up. Nothing wrong with that.

POST 6Original post

My 01 996 hasn't used any oil in 5000 miles (expect rms leak...)
