Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

55 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Haven't posted in a while guys, been busy building a home for my '00 996 and my vette. Thought you might like to take a peek.. Here's the build thread I started in May of '07 in building a garage on my lot next to my house. Originally I wanted to put in a second story for some office space, theater room etc. The city ***** put an end to that with their height restrictions, so I decided to do the next best thing, build down. First, we started by clearing out the RV pad that ran along the side of the house. Then start digging a big hole Here you can see the tunnel to the main house AH! Found the gas line.. I'm sure this whole project is OSHA approved. Footings Can't find the pic with all the forms built up, it was a huge mess, here's the final foundation. After a 2.5 month wait, we finally get steel delivered. (I'm skipping all the drama here, and we were out of town for two weeks when the B-decking went down over the beams, and the rebar reinforced concrete was poured over the beams) Framing Ah yes.. the drama with the power. We had to completely destroy the front yard to run 400 amp service to the house, and then across the yard again to the garage. (wife was thrilled)

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Getting a new driveway poured... Inside garage sheetrock pics Workbench area, wired for TV in the corner Some of the work being done in the theater room (under the driveway) Fast Forward.. here's how everything looks today.. all these were taken this afternoon Out front Side door. Inside, paint job just finished... **** t-5 lights man, way small but we have 7 banks of the six lights in there, it's like a freakin' operating room man.. very bright Workbench area Heater for the 5 degree days in Utah man <shiver> And now.. downstairs in the "bunker" area, this is the door in the garage just to the right of the workbench area that leads downstairs. This is the door that I wanted to put a coke machine in front of. <still working on that> Down the staircase... A pic of the main area directly under the garage, all set up to be a home gym. A shot to the left, room on the right is the office, on the left is a bathroom. A look down the hall to the home theater room Inside the theater All the **** home automation wiring. I seriously don't even know what half of it is for.. Storage room From the main house, looking down the secret tunnel Around the corner and down into the bunker That's it so far.. About 1,200 sq feet of garage space, and about 2,350 of space underneath.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Movin' pretty slow the last few weeks.. but my painter finally got back from vacation and was able to spend the last few days getting the epoxy laid down on teh garage floor. Just put the sealer coat on yesterday. Have to give it 3-4 days to totally cure, then I'll actually be parking in there Also got the speakers installed.. gotta have tunes man!! So, now just waiting on the plumber to come put in the sink, and waiting for the diamond plate baseboard that will sit on top of the interior foundation, and I'm good to go...

POST 4Original post

Thanks for the update. That is a great project! Something the whole family will enjoy.

POST 5Original post

Damn! That must have cost a small fortune! Nice work! One question - How are you gonna get any large items down into the bunker using the tiny spiral staircase?? Or did I miss a larger entrance/exit?

POST 6Original post

that is so gangster. i love it and how inconspicuous it looks done up. great work man!

He can bring everything in via the tunnel that connects to the main house's basement.

POST 13Original post

WOW!!! Way to overcome you obsticles. I would probably never leave my garage if it looked like that. Your title, Dream Garage, is very fitting to say the least. Who is in charge of whipping down tires?

Should be able to park in it tonight (epoxy should be nice and cured) I'll post some pics of the 996 in her new home..

POST 18Original post

That is definitely one of the coolor photo posts I've seen in a while. The garage looks great and I know that home theater is going to rock. Don't think that I didn't notice the 12" stadium seating.

POST 20Original post

I am friggin speechless.....Are you SURE it wouldn't have been cheaper to build a new home to spec & move?

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 5209439

I'd probably actually say "no" or "not by much". What he built there is essentially a small single family home, albeit one with a large capped garage. I assume that he already owned the land it's on, and the only part that affects the existing house is the walkway into the lower foundation, which probably wasn't a big deal.

POST 22Original post

Nice pics of a top shelf project. Amazed at the size of the footings...until I saw the steel and poured concrete floors. The garage space alone is remarkable. Nice work.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5209283

If you look at the picture of the garage, on the left wall near the back of the garage I have 220. The lift is coming..

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5209477

Correct, yeah.. we have just over 1/2 acre, and that spot was just grass. So I decided to put it to good use.

POST 25Original post

i am so jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great great job.

POST 28Original post

Beautiful. Nice little escape from the house when you need it - either to the theatre or the gargare - just what everyone needs.

POST 29Original post

Holy **** that is sweet.........that blows away anything on HGTV.......

POST 30Original post

so awesome...great documentation of the entire process. Your garage is bigger than my condo!!!! California sucks. What vehicles get to park in that beautiful garage space? What kind of home theater is going in? I'm so jealous.

POST 33Original post

What a great project! Did you design it yourself, use plans available or bring in an archetect? Looks great - a dream project!

POST 35Original post

Dude, you're an Internet legend. Now decorate it with a Porsche and Vette, and you're all...set.

I'll be parking the '00 996, '00 vette and land rover for now. Other rides will go in the wifes garage.

POST 37Original post

That is one heck of a cool garage!! Congrats!!

POST 38Original post

Thanks for posting the pictures! I really enjoyed watching your project come to life. It inspires some of us to dream our own. * smiles *

POST 44Original post

That is great! One day I will be building mine, one day.

POST 45Original post

speechless. Your wife must be a patient woman. That is one helluva project. Keep us updated on the home theater going in. Your garage looks just like the shop at my local P dealer in Long Beach. NO JOKE. Great job.

Do you have windows in your basement? I thought it was all closed over, or am I missing something?

POST 49 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5217284

Yup two windows. City code. Emergency exit... and they require a certain percentage of "natural light" in a basement. Suprisingly (even though they are 15 feet down) we get a good amount of light through them, go figure...

POST 50Original post

Quotes source post: 5219202

Cool. I thought when I saw the pics that the area around the garage was filled in/closed over. Surprised about the requirements since you already have two exits. REALLY surprised about natural light being a requirement. That is SUCH a cool set up.

POST 51Original post

The most awesome "Man's Hideway" I have ever seem.....

POST 52Original post

Did you have to do anything special to keep gasoline fumes (heavier than air) from settling in the basement/rec area?

POST 53 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5220686

The door that leads from the garage to the spiral staircase is fire rated and and exterior door.. it's pretty well sealed.

POST 54Original post

wow impressive. id hate to see the price tag on this one.
