sorry, I will change my picture back to my porsche.....it is so funny how different people react to different things (cars in this case!)

Open your eyes and look at the trend right now...all (almost all!) manufacturers are using more and more chrome...and besides on a suv and some other cars like audi and VW I am not a huge fan of chrome...it just looks good on a Denali and escalade.

I'm just always bewildered when people use a single baby as a justification for 'needing' one.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I took you guys advice didn't buy a Hummer H2...but an Escalade...
Actually wanted to buy a Yukon Denali, but my lovely American wife felt that was beneath her
and needed a cadillac.
My X5 is going to be returned to the dealer next month and is going to be missed..there is nothing better than german manufacturing
...but it is just not big enough..I need the room for the kids, business and hauling stuff for my newly acquired home.
Escalade is a great truck
...drives like a bus
and has all the gadgets and chrome good enough for a hip hop music video
.
Porsche is catching dust in the garage....it is just impossible for me to take it out for a trip to homedepot...and my 9 month old needs more room in the back than the 911 can provide.
Just how big is this 9 month old?????
I'm not automatically against SUVs or Escalades (in fact, I think I have a secret gland that actually wants a Cayenne Turbo
) but if you can't put a baby in the back of a 911, what *can* you put back there??
Not much room back there for a proper baby seat as far as I can tell. BUT there is plenty of room for my 5 year old and 8 year old. They love it!
The Escalade thing is a proper land yacht. Man I hate being stuck behind those things...
I have a Escalade EXT and it is the best riding vehicle I ever owned. I bought it new and have 92,000 miles with zero problems. I will buy another one when I am done with this one. Oh yea, nice color, black is the only color to go with.
Mike
Congrats on your new purchase, I like it, major blingage.
As far as 996 rear seat...my 6' 16 yr old has been on a hand full of short backseat rides (just had to come along w/me and wife).
Now he was stuffed in there but did not seem to mind it, no complaints.
Maybe he is working me on "Dad, can I take the Porsche just this once, I promise not to get on it"
Happy wife happy life, nice ride.
...yup, just like wood paneled station wagons.
What I don't understand is why people think they need something so big.
I have a toddler and another on the way and I know I don't need anything that big. I really wonder what it is that people feel they need to drag around with them when they go places.
I have a brother that's like this...when his second child was born, he claimed that he "didn't know what he was going to do" because his GMC Yukon wasn't big enough any more. He truly lamented the fact that there wasn't a larger vehicle available out there.
Meanwhile, my SO and our new baby had room to spare in a Honda Civic...
I'm not a fan of these things, either, but I must say that they are good at what they're good at. My family rented a Yukon XL on a ski trip last week. Six grownup-sized people (including three boys >6'2") plus luggage and snowboards and skis. The thing was as easy to drive as a minivan and it got startlingly good mileage, especially for being loaded to the gunwhales and driven at high altitude. I loathe GM cars, but this truck got my grudging respect.
Mods, please move this to OT...one of the things I love about Rennlist is it provides a brief escape from the trucks (oops, "SUVs") that surround me everywhere on the road. Funny, we had 4 kids growing up and never felt the need for one of those ridiculous monster trucks.
Yup, the only time our car gets loaded up is on long distance trips, but it's never packed.
On regular outings the only thing that goes with us is a backpack with his diaper suppliers and a lightweight Jeep stroller and most of the time we don't even bother with the stroller - we were given a full size stroller when he was born and never used it. I have a hard time understanding how people are loading up their cars with crap when all of our stuff fits into a backpack.
sorry, I will change my picture back to my porsche.....it is so funny how different people react to different things (cars in this case!)
But for the record the chrome parts on cars fashion is FAR from over! Open your eyes and look at the trend right now...all (almost all!) manufacturers are using more and more chrome...and besides on a suv and some other cars like audi and VW I am not a huge fan of chrome...it just looks good on a Denali and escalade.
Does this mean we are going back to bell bottoms and platform shoes. I have a wild shot of me going off to Kindergarten, didn't need the first step of the bus with those babies on.
Congrats on your new purchase. Although I would never get one; I am happy you like it.
Its funny how people here like to tell other people how to live their lives.
Enjoy the Sclade, I have allot of seat time in the Escalade as well as the Hummer and Danali, while I like the understated (comparatively)look of the Danali the Escalade just has a for nicer interior. For driving enjoyment way better than an H2.
The Escalade is like driving your living room around
Yeah, well, sadly those have already come and gone several times since the '70s.
Hey, live and let live. People seem to like the Escalade and it seems like a nice car.
I'm just always bewildered when people use a single baby as a justification for 'needing' one. I'm just waiting to find anyone who can tell me why they truly 'need' one in terms of space and "stuff" carried as a result of having a baby. People did fine carrying babies before the Escalade came along and I still know of many (myself included) who do fine without buying a monster truck to carry a tiny baby and the few things that they need for outings.
I love the look of the new Slade lowered a bit on 24s, but it's such an American thing this gargantuan, totally impractical, inefficient means of transport.
I'd never get one and these days with gas prices trending up on the graph, I tend to laugh a little at all those Escalades being driven around with one person in the car. I wouldn't mind it so much if it came in a hybrid format where it fetched a legit 20mpg mixed use.
That'd be cool.
I dont get it, how big are you and your kids, doesnt a 2 year old get enough space in a x5 or in the backseat of a porsche 996 then I dont know, maybe you have an alien on your hand?
Sorry, Marc, but the words "driving enjoyment" should not be located anywhere near the name of any of the vehicles in question.
I don't even enjoy driving my FX around most of the time, and WAY too many people assure me that it drives "like a sports car". No, it don't.
I agree---we just bought my wife an FX35...supposedly one of the better handling SUV/Crossovers. This is not saying a lot. I guess compared to the trucks, it's better, but it's still no sports car.
This made me laugh, you should have just bought her a wood paneled station wagon (Town and Country baby!). If my wife ever told me that a $50K car was "beneath her", I'd probably lose it.
yep it was the wife (what else is new?) and I am beyond losing it.....after 5 years I gave up/in and just get her what she wants and than make her work harder!! I wanted to get her a tahoe or denali and she rebounded that why can I drive a Porsche and does she has to drive a soccer-mom mobile? And I have no reply..anybody??
I don't really care about fuel prices (don't drive enough to care...if I did I would buy a camry hybrid).
I like the handling of the X5 over the escalade..and the x5 is build better as well....but the escalade has it all!!
Size..I am just to lazy to take the stroller out of the car before shopping and with the x5 this was a problem....
In the end I like the escalade and in another 3 years it will be gone and we will see what the next "boat" ( I mean SUV) it is going to be...for now I will just drive my boat and if I feel sporty my 911
1. You can make a comparison on the value of the cars. Our used 996 is worth less than most new SUVs out on the road.
2. You married a smart woman. She is better for you in the long run on everything else. Just enjoy the ride.... No pun intended.
Congrats on your new purchase.
+1
Well said Chao.
Most here seem to be able and do live a bit over the top with things.
Just look how many own a BIG home, way more than then need in most cases. Pure luxury one can and chooses to afford. Not the greenest choise here eithe, but that's ok...
