Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Installed Fabspeed mufflers this weekend. I'm only moderately mechanical so I was not sure about doing this myself but after reading posts here and getting pretty detailed instructions I decided to go ahead.
First, big thanks to Gota911 (Tim) for the detailed instructions you posted and the pictures & parts diagram. This was a huge help.
The best advice is do not tighten the bolts down until the end. You want to be able to make adjustments once they are on.
It went very well and consider this encouragement for anyone thinking about doing it themselves; if I can do it anyone can.
I did not have to take the wheels off to get the old cans out. Tight, but they come out with a gentle tug at the fender. I cannot believe what monsters they are; huge & heavy.
I am impressed with the Fabspeeds. Seem well built and much smaller and lighter than stock. The tips are nice too. They really liven up the car. much better sound. Quiet at idle but really come alive at higher revs.
All-in-all a great addition.
Now I'm hooked on more improvements. Here is my list"
-RSS Plenum
-B&M SSK
-OEM Carbon fibre shifter
-Carbon fibre trim strip & door entry guards
-Aluminum pedals
-Storage tray to replace ugly CD holders
-Lloyds mats
-Wheel spacers
-Clear bra
Any other suggestions? Maybe suspension next year??
Here are a couple of pics from my install:
Regards,
Paul
Congrats! It seems spring has got everyone to drag out their tool boxes.
SSK should be your next project. You will be realizing the value of it everytime you turn that key.
Sorry, I did not. Fabspeed website claims their mufflers eliminate 12 lbs from stock which I do not dispute. I did the "hold" test with the old & new and it felt at least that much lighter.
I was not happy with stock. Too "muffled" and subdued so after much reading on this board I decided to go with the Fabs.
At idle there is not much difference. It does become noticably louder if you rev it. Louder, deeper and sharper; almost a "bark."
When driving up through the rev band it sounds great. Definitely louder, and more aggressive. I think it fits the bill of what I was looking for. Livened the car up. When cruising it is fine. Only marginally louder than the stock muffs and no resonance.
One of the clinchers for me was the Fabspeed video in which they show the inside of the stock muffler compared to the Fabspeed. You can see how restrictive the stock cans are.
I have had a couple of neighbors comment that the car sounds louder, so it really must be.
All-in, a good mod that I am happy with. Also had fun installing them myself
Great, thanks for the detailed feedback. Have you had a chance to drive the car with the top down post installation? Also, have you noticed an improvement in throttle response?
I have not yet had the top down; I'm in Canada and it's still a bit cold here!
I cannot honestly say I noticed better throttle response due to muffs alone. I'm not sure about their claimed hp increase, although if you watch the video on the Fabspeed website that shows the inside of the stock cans compared to the Fabs I don't see how there cannot be some improvement due to reduced back pressure.
If you are considering this do it for the sound improvement, better looks (their tips are nicer than my stock ones) and weight saving. If it is not actually faster it will feel faster!
