I saw the thread the first day, but since ben is on iggy when I checked back today I couldn't believe Tim ranted on for 8 pages about posting pics....
Leading evidence: 'Check back today i couldn't believe tim ranted' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'other members wouldn't care' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check back in order' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Feel free to post a bunch of political threads in the 996 forum if you want to test the boundaries of your "free speech", but I suspect the other members wouldn't care for that and you'd be reported to John D or Randy V rather quickly.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm not sure how I was able to fly under the radar the last couple of years without posting pics.
This weekend I took off the hard-top, put on the summer wheels and decided to snap a few pics.
Flared rockers are going on in the next week or two.
Hey there Stan this is the same Ben from this thread:
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...d.php?t=125333
Just wanted to be remind you to ignore me here as well. Now I clearly see the justification to your sensitivity to my comments since your car is also a narrowbody trying to stuff in widebody bumpers (as clearly seen in the uneven gappage in pics above).
Yea, I give credit to stan that he didn't do the Home Depot chicken wire mesh look to his widebody bumpers.
And if you actually read through the threads, there are many times when I've complimented people here on their cars, but you like the typical public chooses to focus on the negativity.
Hey Ben,
No sensitivity on my part. We just have differing opinions.
I'm not sure which gappage you're referring to as to the best of my knowledge there is no such word.
Clearly you're passionate about cars. I think your car looks great. The problem is you're young and are still under the impression that you know it all and even worse that the public at large gives a sh*t about what you think.
In case your mother neglected here's a tip for you; if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing.
Also, if your going to spend as much time as you clearly do writing on web forums, you may want to take a writing course. You're butchery of the language is appalling and only serves to make you look every bit the fool you are.
Grow up, get a job, get a life and then come back.
No offense intended with any of the above, I'm just keepin' it real.
Stan
WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH again, butchery of language eh? Do we get free membership renewals if we type like our English class grade depended on it? Or should we just have a grammar-a-thon, spelling bee since it's not that clear that you GOT MY POINT thus the pointed responses?
Speaking of important women in our lives since you bring that into the convo a real classy move... does your wife/daughter know you're getting her/their panties in a bunch from some comments made by a random stranger online?
Please dude, get over yourself. LOL
Hey Stan,
Well said...to sum it up, It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
But Ben never listens, what a character.
Nice look by the way, love those rims, maybe I'll see you around TO.
Dude, I think it's you that should be getting over yourself.
Ask yourself this; if most of the people that reply to your posts think you're a jerk, are they all wrong or are you a jerk?
Don't despair I think there's hope for you yet. Currently your car and these forums appear to be top of your list in terms of what's important to you. You will eventually grow up and realize that these forums are a great place for enthusiasts to share their passion but that they have their time and place and that there is a real world out there with real people that are meaningful to you that should be far more important to you and a better place for you to concentrate your attention.
FYI your "cool" way of writing does little more than reinforce the general low esteem that those of us in this virtual environment hold you in. I'm sure it's a big hit with your friends at the mall but it will do little to help you as you make your way through life.
By the way there was no insult to your mother, I'm sure she is/was a fine woman, I'm guessing she spent lots of time trying to impart her wisdom on you. Too bad it didn't take.
Hey Jake,
I love that saying. Thanks for the compliment. I haven't gone out to any of the GTA GTG's but hoping to get out soon. Have you attended?
Stan
Why is it that even when most of the threads that Ben post to turn to crap, the mods do nothing to stop it? How many times does this have to happen? Somebody posts a thread with a picture, Ben responds with an "opinion" and the internet pissing game ensues and the thread is ruined. Ive gotten to the point that I have put him on ignore, but that doesnt solve the issue of the thread being ruined by fighting.
So you come in here "I'm not sure how I was able to fly under the radar the last couple of years without posting pics" and now you're arbiter for the rennlist 996 forum popularity contest? LOL
I do admit, I am incredibly passionate about those things that I love. I love cars. Now a 911 owner/driver of 1 year and 15K miles under my belt, I've grown to absolutely love Rennlist. It is my one and only communication channel with complete strangers . cool. My life is full, but I make time for those things that I love. Period. The "threats" to put me on ignore, calling on mods... if this is taken away, believe me, I'll move on just fine.
And I do love people who share in the above interest, but also in many ways disdain (relatively speaking) those who throw out online their poor modification choices as direct/indirect/myopic propoganda that it is good. You get a handful of people saying oh yea that's great, clean when in fact there may well be just as many or more who think it's absolutely ridiculous but keep their keyboards shut for whatever reason.
Instead of not typing it, I choose to type it out. It's not the easier road, it certainly is the more controversial road (relatively speaking) and perfectly appropriate for... an online forumwhere you write to communicate.
But the type of response I get from sharing the honest truth (we can clearly see uneven gappage on the right tail light section) is what often reveals to me the kind of person the owner is. in your case, you got real sensitive about it and it went from talking about bumper fitment and look on a car to taking personal jabs at my grammar (u don't even know), bringing up my mom (classy), conjecture about what's important in my life, and on and on and on.
Y'all can take a read and come to your own conclusions.
Now it's clear to me you're a martyr. Your juvenile remarks are the web equivalent of taking one for the team. You're making the web a better place for all of us as clearly only your opinion of what is clean or good is what counts. I commend you on this difficult row you continue to hoe!
"Instead of not typing it, I choose to type it out. It's not the easier road, it certainly is the more controversial road (relatively speaking) and perfectly appropriate for... an online forumwhere you write to communicate."
Ben, you can attempt to legitimize your venom any way you like, you can justify it any way you like but at the end of the day we see you for who you are and it would do you a world of good to take some of the comments to heart.
You can certainly dish it out but as soon as anyone chimes back at you-you make it personal. That's quite a chip you've got there, does it cause you to walk with a limp?
Ben doesn't need my praise nor my criticism, but really....what kind of thread would this be if an OP asked for an opinion about his car and responders offered only compliments? Sounds like it would be pretty boring.
I think there's a downside if we act like women who, responding to a friend who has just had her hair cut, say "that's cute" when in fact it isn't. If guys on Rennlist really want to know how we feel about their wheels, mods, or anything else about their cars, they should be prepared for reactions that are honest and genuine. Ben gives honest reactions, albeit not always in ways that are presented tactfully.
it's clear to me that i tweaked you pretty badly and you're looking for a bit of payback for me not liking the things you've done on your car that you've spent time and $ on. you can make this out to be much more than what it is (which you have), but that's all on you bud. but all eyez on me cuz you continue to interact with me when in fact you wanted to simply put me on ignore. it's kinda fun isn't it?
sorry. i don't know what else to say. the stock bumpers look much better on your narrowbody than the widebody bumpers on the narrowbody and i hope the next person who thought what you did was a good idea can clearly see the flipside to: oh that looks so clean and sweet dude great job rock on!
-the widebody to narrowbody diff is nearly 2"... thus the modification you had to go thru to stuff it in
-the lights on the widebody cars are bigger and very diff in design and look to be more in proportion with the fatter rear bumper piece
-the resulting effect on your car is a pear shaped rear end (you can witness a lot of these at your local walmart)
God you guys are slow! Me and his mother ignored him 2 minutes after he was born
Welcome - pity that we didn't beat you for photos sooner, but anyone who gives Ben a slapping like that is okay in my book!
I've always been a narrow body fan myself. I think it goes back to the early 60's - 70's 911 an 912 bodies. Still love 'em!
I don't dislike any 911's (see illustration below) except maybe some of the 80's bumper mandated cars and 80's speedsters, just wrong...
Ben,
You crack me up. Clearly you are a kid (at least my definition of one).
Someday. Not today or tomorrow or probably not even a month from now, but, someday.....you will wake up and realize what a d**k you have been as you have grown up. And you will be embarrassed of the things you have said and done. Mark my words because I've been there, done that.
Back to the regular post. Good looking car. Enjoy it!
Yeah, I do. It's actually on right now. It's a lot like this thread. With the exception that there is no one here that is judicial. Judgemental....yes! Judicial.....no! Very entertaining!
You have John D - he watches everything, then you have those of us that let John know when he needs to come here and give people a spanking.
Mostly we have a good bunch that John knows he can trust to police ourselves. I don't remember the last time that he stepped in and had to take action on something.
While I’m not choosing a “side” here, I wanted to offer an observation or two…in hopes of bringing this thread back to earth. When Stan created this post early this afternoon, I’m sure he NEVER imagined the debate it would cause. From what I gather, this gentleman was very excited about the mods he no doubt spent considerable time and money investing in, and was eager to share them with our community.
It should be noted that Stan did not post this as a “poll”…he never asked whether we liked his choices or not. There are plenty of posts made in that fashion, and doing so is certainly legitimate…but this was not one of them. He was excited, and wanted to share his latest creation and joy with his fellow Pcar owners.
That being said, this IS a public forum…and any posts made are subject to criticism, both positive and negative. While I’m not condoning some of the subsequent bitch slapping that occurred, it seems perfectly fair and reasonable for anyone to offer their thoughts. There should be no expectation of immunity to opinions that differ from one’s own.
It seems, (and again…this is only an observation), but it seems threads like these could and should remain more civil if some simple restraint is observed by all.
Make your observation (which you are COMPLETELY entitled to)…and move on. Don’t continue to check back in order to argue with anyone who disagrees.
In turn, accept others comment and opinions for what they are, and move on as well!
It’s silly to attempt to convince anyone else (the original poster or others) that their beliefs or feelings are right or wrong!
Come on guys! Let’s keep this fun!
you guys are such suckers to respond when somebody does something not in-line which is to high five each other strokin egos, but when it comes to the tough stuff and someone spots something that doesn't look all that great... dude the circling the wagons action is too funny.
i am typing out what i honestly feel about the car. THE CAR.
Love the color, had a car in deep blue a few years back and will again someday.
Hey so conflict notwithstanding, and out of sheer curiosity, an earnest question to the OP:
I never noticed it before but do you think the carveouts for the exhaust tips are spaced a little wider on the wider bumpers? It's interesting, I just never thought about it before.
I guess I'm also wondering, why modify an OE widebody bumper if there were aftermarket parts that fit without modification (I'm not sure that there are, just inferring from other posts)?
I'll admit I'm not yet a huge fan of the turbo/C4S bumper which puts me in the minority here but I am curious since I would assume the aftermarket part and modified OEM part would both be considered "modified" to a prospective buyer at any future sale date and therefore impart similar value or reversal cost. Is it the grills or accessories, or (what I'm figuring) was it just a smoking hot deal at the time?
Ben, you're right.
Why do we all visit Rennlist? To check out the cars, and express our opinions... whatever they may be. It's perfectly natural to express negative opinions, taunt others and border on expletives.
Same thing, you know, when I go to restaurants and I don't like the food, I get into this vile fit and curse everyone there.
When I'm at a Walmart and I don't care for the greeter, I just take out my shotgun and go bang bang.
Sometimes it so bad... I wake up in the morning and I don't like what I see in the mirror. So I just end up smashing the mirror most of the time.
Heck, I just keep expressing my opinion everywhere I go ... what am I doing wrong? Maybe I should stroke the ego of the Walmart greeter a little more? Damn, I'm lost ...
I like your car.....I put a turbo bumper on narrow body as well...but never though about making mine look like anything else than a 911 996 cab....I just liked the turbo bumpers (front and rear) better.
Ben..... I love you tooooo..... you are a bit opinionated but maybe it just comes out wrong on "paper"
Everybody should lighten up and give each other some space...I need it with my new aquired BOAT!!! LOL
So I guess my likes/dislikes with the car won't match many people here but I think the wheels/ride height, smoked lights and the car's color work great. I'm about neutral on the bumpers, and really dislike the exhaust tips and the chrome surround around them on the bumper.
Ahmet
Stan,
First, welcome to the forum. Enjoy the car which you have worked hard on.
As for Ben, I think he has gotten better over the past couple of years. He likes to push and redefine "the line" all the time. Some of the comments are refreshing; others are just to test people's comfort levels. He has a different way of communicating than most people.
I have grown to understand the way he communicates and its fine for me. Some things I just ignore. Maybe its because I am getting old. I dunno.
Hi,
I'm a big fan of blue cars. My 996 is Lapis. I had a couple of Avus blue M5's.
Yes the exhaust outlet points are wider on the TT/C4S bumper. On the C4S Porsche uses relocation pipes to make them line up.
After market vs OE; The after market stuff is typically made of fiberglass or other fragile materials and they don't look "quite" right. The mod needed to make the OE fit a NB car is actually quite minor. If you take a TT bumper and bolt it up to a NB car you'll find that the only point that doesn't line up is the top of the wheel arch (on the bumper), a little careful trimming and it fits just right. No gaps or bulges.
When I did these mods a couple of years ago there were only 2 other cabs around (that I knew of) with these mods (Don Cape Cod and Newport). They both modded OE TT rears to fit a NB. I really liked the look and set out to do the same. I found a brand new stock TT rear for $250 and the extra bits (grills etc...) cost me another $100. Total job including paint ran me approximately $600. All this to say it wasn't big bucks and when I sell the car I'll most likely remove the front and rear bumper covers and replace them with the stock originals.
I'm very happy with the look of my car. Having said that after a couple of years I'm considering a change. I may opt for a GT3 front and stock rear, maybe a set of BBS LM's. Who knows.....
Cheers,
Stan
Thanks. Actually I've been here since 2005. I post occasionally and read regularly.
In all honesty I have no problem with anyone not liking my car or mods, I didn't buy the car or mod for anyone but me.
I do however have a low tolerance for crap. Ben is a the web equivalent of a school yard bully and for the life of me I can't understand why anyone tolerates his nonsense. I have nothing else to say on the matter of Ben.
Cheers,
Stan
About once a month, I'll wonder in from the racing forum check out what's being discussed in the 996 forum. And then I remember why it's been that long... It usually takes about 4 or 5 threads before I select a one with pages and pages of off-topic flaming that had nothing to do with the original thread - usually instigated by Ben's critique of someone else's car.
While I can relate to the issues you guys have with Ben, responding to him dilutes the value of the forum just as much. Adding him to your ignore list only benefits you individually. Publicly ignoring him by letting his posts go unnoticed would benefit everyone.
This used to be a very informative sub-forum. But it's just too hard to wade through all of the crap. Check out the other forums. Making fun of each other is a sport everywhere, but at least it's good-natured fun grounded in actually knowing each other in person. Over here, it feels more like an outlet for anonymous road rage.
Hope you guys can rise above the juvenile crap from Ben. I really love my 996, and wish it wasn't such a waste of time to wander into the 996 forum to stay up to speed on the rest of your insights.
Apologies for adding to the noise level myself, but I've wanted to make this point for a long time. But now I'm done, and will not add to the noise level again... Thanks.
If you did that, that'd be a MUCh better look and even after your childish reaction making this personal bringing the whole momma thing into it, i'd applaud you as it'd be a huge upgrade to the frankenstein pear look u got going on now. i call it as i see it. ez.
as for you modding the car fo ryou... no **** sherlock why don't you listen to yourself. but this is 90% true as it's obvious you got tweaked by my disapproval.
it's all good. there are those reading this who see the truth in what i say.
ignore me, listen to me, make this bigger than what it really is and share it with your family, friends around the dinner table, whatever. at the end of the day, you guys are entertained by all that comes about from making critically constructive comments about a dude's sports car. porsche ******? yes.
Frank Lin, is that you?
You are not the end all of what a car should look like. Cars come in all shapes for a reason. Life comes in all shapes too.
You are immature and it shows. When a large number of people ask you to STFU you should do so. Listen and learn.
In the mean time STFU little boy.
Hey NateDogg,
Instead of your weak approach of coming up on here as a stranger yapping away with zero context with me, take a vote, start a poll.
If the Rennlist people want me to stop posting since as you say a "large number of people" are asking me to "STFU", let's at least be democratic about it. I will follow suit. EZ as pie.
Somebody, anybody who has been proactively casting aspersion... Do it instead of whining about it as you huddle around the flagpole like the school girls you are. No offense to the ladies of Rennlist, really...
Here's your opportunity on a damn fruit plate to get me to disengage all together from Rennlist.
I will honor the results of the vote cuz yet again, I do as I say and share as I honestly feel.
Don't stop posting buddy....you are entertainment here and 6speed...people just have to understand that you are being critical of their cars/mods and not take it personally. You are just too brutal for some people, but you can't expect everyone to like you!! Rennlist won't be the same without you here man!
Believe it or not, I actually like being liked or at the least appreciated for the entertainment value that I bring and in the rarer case sharing my 911 experiences with modifications that it may help another brother out there (GTM/GT2M wing, PPI experience, warranty recommendations, wheel fitment, my audio system install, etc).
But if after all my posts the Rennlisters feel that this forum is better off without my commentary, then I have no issues whatsoever packing the bags with many a fond memories that'll hopefully never be erased from this place.
I can leave as quickly as I appeared here back when I was still romping on my M3 not understanding the whole 911 experience. Now I do thx to some of the members here like Ray, like Bruce, like ls911, like TheSpeedDemon, and a good number of others. I hope to actually meet htny, Bucket Hat Loren someday along with the original gangsters I just mentioned. This is priceless.
And so because I love this place I will do whatever the forum wants with the exception of one thing: I will never change who I am and censor what I feel about what people do to their 911s.
I still see no poll.
Seriously, I challenge any of you to post it up. It'll be fun.
Hi! Welcome to Rennlist. I don't think we have seen you around here before. Introduce yourself and post pics of your car. We would like to get to know you.
Cause most people don't give QW#$% what you do Ben.
Some day you will understand, the world doesn't revolve around you (let alone Rennlist), not matter how obnoxious, childish, and chest-thumping you are.
Grow up, learn to be honest while still demonstrating a mature grasp of how to be respectful at the same time, "be real" without being real stupid, and then take a poll.
Otherwise post your own dumb poll.
Ben, if you enjoy being here, why do you care what people think of you?
This place has changed quite a bit since it's beginnings. I often disagree with many people here (and find your tastes too blingtacular though we sometimes agree on some of the cleaner looking cars, -I gravitate more towards what you would call race car driver wanna-be, hah) but variety is the spice of life.
Ahmet
WOW! Were the F have I been
Let me see...he's not nice, negative, ignore him, he did not say what I needed to hear about my car, get a life, get a job, your grammar sucks, your mother this and that, etc, etc, etc...
Come on
One gives a straight up blunt opinion about a car stating his dislikes. So he happens to do this in a rude negative and humorous way
Big deal
Is that all it really takes to take it to a personal level? Is it thin skin? Stooping lower than the one you claim is low?
If one is at such a higher level of maturity, manors or upbringing wouldnt he/she show this by their very own response and actions?
Some here LOVE to throw gasoline in the fire and then play stupid while all along contributing to the very thing they say they can't standnow that is "funny".
This IS an open forum we choose to open up and post in. Its a melting pot of personalities, cultures and opinions. It is not custom made for each individual to hear and get exactly what they want or need get over it.
it is what it is...a great site, package deal.
I have greatly enjoyed it as well and have learned much about my car/mods through this place (thanks to all for this)
Ive also had the opportunity to know a few a bit better. For those I write about it has been a pleasure
Stan thanks for the reply. It's funny I have been staring at 996 turbos since I saw your car trying to eyeball measure the exhaust cutout difference. The relocation pipe thing makes sense, can you just have someone bend the straight part of the exhaust pipe ahead of the tips a little, put a little mandrel S in there to move the outlets a hair wider? Might be a cheap fix and get those tips to come out straight and would also likely make them a little closer to flush (of course I have no idea what that will do to sound or backpressure or performance, just an idea)
$250 + paint and it all makes sense. I have to say considering the expense it really turned out well. I'm definitely in the minority here in not liking the turbo style bumpers, but hey I like turbo-style wheels!
Speaking of which, LMs are a great wheel, and while I like their look better than the ones you have on now, your current set fill out very nicely and might even look better than the LMs on the darker colors.
Lapis is a great color, if I hadn't gone black I'd have gone Lapis Blue. In cars I've got two black and one white right now, but I think this summer what with car prices falling into the floor I may let a little color back into my life! A friend of mine has been haranguing me to go help him with his Maser Gran Turismo purchase, I may just have to push the dark "Blu Oceano" (although they do have a very BMW M Avus Blue style "Blu Mediterraneo" on request, would have to do the white wheels if that went down).
+1
I love it how people who do not frequent the forums are usually the ones who are most sensitive. Maybe that's why and perhaps we are used to honest opinions around here now and call a spade a spade.
I think there's a difference between an honest opinion and a "Yo, dawg, your hoopty looks cheap like someone just took a big **** between the tires and call them rims..."-type of rude comment.
This "problem" is ridiculously easy to solve--just stop the rudeness. I'd love to see how some RLers act in real life, 'cause if they come across in person like they come across in writing, I feel sorry for them.
That is hilarious. You and Ben spending quality time together? Spend a little bit of time in OT and you will find that the 996 forum pales in comparison.
Hi Ludwig,
Clearly you have higher tolerance for the type of nonsense that he spews than I do. More power to you.
I've been a member of Rennlist since 2005, I read the 996 forum just about daily and contribute when I feel that I have something intelligent to add.
I didn't ask for any comments about my car but it stands to reason that by posting pics I created an opportunity for both positive and negative comments. I graciously accept the compliments and let the negative ones slide because I don't care if someone doesn't like my car, mods, colour, wheels, etc... as I previously stated, I like them and that's what counts.
My issue with Ben (which seems to be the same as most of the others in this forum) is that he spews venom, insults people that said or did nothing other than ask a question or g-d forbid post a pic. He then adds a stupid smiley face at the end; as if that makes it better.
I'm not suggesting that we only write positive messages, in fact it would make for a pretty boring site. What I can't understand is why it needs to be dragged down to the level that he brings it.
I think tooloud hit the nail on the head....
"I'd love to see how some RLers act in real life, 'cause if they come across in person like they come across in writing, I feel sorry for them."
We can agree to disagree but there's nothing you can say that justifies his rude and juvenile posts.
Cheers,
Stan
Stan,
I am completely neutral in this matter and have disagreed strongly with Ben in the past. This forum is a medium where people share an interest from all over the world. Unfortunately most of what goes on here do not evolve into friendship as tooloud10 eludes to. I am not saying that it doesn't but people who automatically think that open themselves up for disappointment.
Hello Stan
I do see your points and do not wish to stir things up again. I am not trying to defend Ben either, does fine on his own.
I will say that I DO care for him (as many others do on this site) and understand many do not, like yourself...that is fine as well.
I do believe some perspective can be lost within our p-car passions and this can cause things to get to the next level, that is to say, personal judgments and attacks. At this point the battle is on.
BTW
I have no intentions or will even try to justify any of the posts.
I’ve also read plenty of venom from others thrown out in their own style and that's seems to be all good.
Just posting my opinion from what has been written by many on this thread, not just one
Takes two to dance…this thread was a disco party
No Ill feeling twoards you Stan (don't know you) just my take on it.
Hey, stanm5, nice car. I'll wave if I see you... I'm near Lakeshore and Park Lawn.
Hey, everybody else. Relax. We drive Porsches. We're not supposed to be so insecure.
Oh, wait, that's funny...
Its not about insecurity, it’s about a user who goes out of his way to make rude and crude comments. I have no problem with comments about my car, negative or positive. I welcome them. It’s when the comments are written in an arrogant, pretentious manner that I have a problem with. Maybe if his posts had a bit more tact there wouldn’t be a problem.
Damnitt, I told myself I wouldn't post in this thread anymore. Oh well.
It is about thin skin, being overly sensitive and pulling judgment.
Don't loose sight about THE remarks being about CARS, yes CARS. Many are right on including the equally strong props being expressed (those don't count though).
It is a style and opinion directed towards ones P-car, that is all it is.
So if some feel the CAR remarks are too rude or negative, fine, great say his car looks bad on 19's and move on.
Why should everybody on this site put out car opinions within the guide lines you set forth as being acceptable?
If not, this seems to gives the green light to hit low by judging and responding back in the same negative way BUT now in a personal level?
Hell yeah! That does not qualify or count because he said my car looks like crap in a rude way.
Please, you were quick to jump in and give your non constructive opinion on Ben's remark. Why did you feel the need for this? Is it ok if you do it? Was he talking about your 996?
You claim to hate "the fighting" but you're quick to throw down and spice it up.
If you really hate it why not leave it alone or add a positive tremark
I'm usually behind the wheel of a volvo wagon
but on the lucky occasion get some seat time in my Boxster Silver. I'm around the Bathurst and Eglinton area. Are you in the area, or just passing through? If I see you I give a wave.
We're neighbors. I'm in the Lakeshore and Royal York area. You must be in Palace Pier or Marina Del Rey...or the newer ones (can't remember the names). Lots of P-cars in our area.
I spend plenty of time in OT. **** that flies in OT doesn't necessarily fly in the technical forums, which is why we HAVE the OT forum.
It has nothing to do with friendship--it has to do with the Internet equivalent of, say, walking right up to a perfect stranger at a car show and telling him his car looks cheap or stupid or ugly or any number of other rude comments. Rude is rude, whether it be in person or in an online discussion forum. Tone is difficult to convey in a written format, so it pays to put more thought into the words one is typing.
I don't think anyone is trying to change Ben's opinion...I think they're wishing he'd change the approach he takes in sharing his opinion. That said, I don't really care how Ben chooses to act--it sure doesn't reflect on me in the least bit. Being in sales (like Ben), I've learned that how one comes across tends to say a lot about them. I am surprised that he doesn't seem to care.
I just don't think there should be a double standard in this forum. Why should my 1st amendment rights be taken away here and not in OT? OT is a place where non technical issues are discussed and this is. Why should censorship apply here and not there?
It has nothing to do with the First Amendment or censorship. It's a private forum and they can ban you at will, though they'll probably tell you what part of the TOS you've violated when doing so. Feel free to post a bunch of political threads in the 996 forum if you want to test the boundaries of your "free speech", but I suspect the other members wouldn't care for that and you'd be reported to John D or Randy V rather quickly.
You're entitled to your opinion.
Wasn't this Forum sold? Is the new parent company a public one? If so, its no longer a private forum. I don't think you understand where I am coming from. The level of tolerance between OT and this subforum should be the same.
Yup, one of the new ones. Lived in Palace Pier for a few years, and really miss it. Never buy in a building that isn't built yet. Why are all the best lessons in life so expensive...
We also have a place up in Creemore where I spend three days a week (dirt road = no Porsche
)
I think I've seen your car coming off the Lakeshore ramp from the Gardiner a few times. Possible? I'm in an Ocean Blue Mk 1 C2, very stock looking except for the window tint. Wave if you see me!
Yup that would be me. Usually stop in at the Rabba to pick up any last minute groceries. I always wave at p-cars...except the Cayennes; they just look back at me confused.
Yes, the forum was sold last year. I'm not sure I care whether you believe me on the public/private thing, but especially with the OT forum being for paying members only, there IS a different level of tolerance between OT and the 996 forum. I don't make the rules, and I'm not the guy that enforces the rules, but if you're unhappy with that, I'd suggest taking it up with John D.
"Free speech" on Rennlist works about the same "free speech" at one's employer.
At the end of the day. We all know that Ben's delivery with his opinions is unconventional. Well, so is the OP's mods. That is the root of the controversy. While Ben's comments are not the nicest around, your response went right down to his level. You became no better than him. In fact, you took it upon yourself to be a moderator of he and told him to act like a "Stepford Wife."
If everyone acted according to your parameters, then Stan's mods would not be welcome here. We would not have individuality in this world. We want to accept and see Stan's mods just as much as a plain stock C2 that came off an assembly line on this forum. Somehow you disagree with that.
I saw the thread the first day, but since ben is on iggy when I checked back today I couldn't believe Tim ranted on for 8 pages about posting pics.... lol
Anyway I think overall mods look great. I would say there is a very slight (but noticable) gap issue with fitted c4s/turbo rear bumper. But hell car still looks great and each to his own. Being a public forum I say let ben say whatever he wants, those who get a laugh read them, those who find it rude or tedious, ignore.....

Nothing on Rennlist, including free speech, compares with what takes place at one's employer...in any way.
Come on, lets keep this in perspective
An internet car enthusiast forum vs. real life? lol..
Stepford Wife? I've quoted myself above where I clearly say that I don't care how Ben acts. He doesn't need to change for me. That said, I think he's rude much of the time. When he's not, I sometimes agree with his comments and have said so on numerous occasions.
Again, see above. I sure don't have any posting parameters, other than simply questioning why some people excuse others for rude behavior under the guise of free speech. It's not a free speech issue to me, it's a "Yo, buddy, why do you act like that sometimes?" issue to a guy I converse with on a weekly basis.
Rennlist IS a lot like one's employer in the sense that they can indeed set the rules and show you the door if you don't abide by them. Free speech? Tell your boss he's an ******* a few times. Post political threads in the technical forums. The results will be similar, i.e. you'll probably be gone shortly.
Well I'll be...You're Right!!!
Rennlist IS just like my employer. I just never though of it with such wisdom Brilliant
Golly, I sure hope they don't show me the door. I promise to abide by all the rules.
Great example and super tip on not calling my boss an *******
Oh yeah, I forgot, I am The BOSS
