Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just bought a new 04 Carrera. Should the oil gauge readings fluctuate with speed? Manual says at 5000 rpm gauge should read 3.5 bar. At slow speeds 40-50 mph it reads about 3.5 bar but at about 70 mph it reads about 4.5 bar. I assume this is normal.Just wondering. Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

This is normal, although when the car is cold, you will notice it is almost pegged at 5.

POST 4Original post

JJS, congrats on your new beauty. Oil pressure will fluctuate while driving... just keep a close eye on it when you're at the track running high speed sweepers.

POST 5Original post

Yes, its normal. I asked the dealer about that also after noticing that in the manual and they said it was wrong. It was mean't to be that it shouldn't be below 3.5 bar at 5000 rpm.

POST 6Original post

It's normal, usually when I am driving I make it a habit to keep an eye on the gauges very closely such as the oil, temperature and power level ( Battery Charge ). If you make it a habit, you shouldn't have any concerns while driving. Just my 2 cents. Cheers and safe driving.

POST 7Original post

I noticed that too, but mine fluctuates between 2-5 (2 usually after warmed up and say at a red light & 5 when I press on the accelerator at higher RPMS's). Is this much of a fluctuation normal as well? Thanks in advance.

POST 8Original post

Yup it should be high until it gets warmed up then drop down to 2 when at idle and it should go up at higher rpm. Too low of pressure is what to look out for.

POST 10Original post

afaik, since the oil pump is engine driven, the pressure generated should be proportionate to engine rpm. i don't know 911 engines but i'd imagine this is true with all cars, as you'd want higher pressure at higher rpms to ensure coverage of friction surfaces. pressure will vary with oil temp (oil gets thinner as it warms up and this means less pressure) and the viscosity of the oil (10w30 will be lower than 20w50 because it is thinner) to make a long story short, you're fine
