Its funny to see 997 guys looking for scraps of information running around like a chicken without a head.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

At lunch.....logged on to RL to get away from the day and I see 4 posts with IMS in the topic. These 4 posts are only about 12 posts apart.
MODS......is there any way to give the IMS subject/issue/thoughts/DYI/ etc it's own sub forum? For the love of god PLEASE.
Easy to say......when one opens the 996 forum and you see 4 posts on the same topic? Its a bit much.
A new forum would kinda be like having a smoker's lounge. You want to smoke than go to the lounge.
IF
we did have a IMS forum I would bet people would still post here.. and yes I could move those posts.
The M96/97 Engine Failure, IMS Discussion Forum and Snack Bar?
IMS??
This? I thought Riad and Gretch had this covered??

I'm pretty new here so my vote shouldn't count too much ... but I support the idea of a separate forum for three reasons:
1) IMS has taken over the board, as noted
2) It would be nice to have centralized repository/suppository on the issue for those who need it, and/or who have low blood pressure and need to pump it up a bit.
3) By centralizing it
maybe
we can learn a little more about it. Who knows.
So I'm one of the guilty parties - started a thread a couple days ago.
I'm in the process of doing my IMS replacement and needed some reassurance on steps that I wasn't 100% sure about. Yes - I have
and I've also read nearly every thread about the subject. I really appreciate the work & documentation others have done, otherwise I might not be doing the job myself.
I have 2 problems with starting a 2nd forum
only
for IMS:
Would it make people feel better better if I said 'help - I'm doing a clutch and RMS', because really, what I need help with it getting all of the components off.
Second, I really appreciate the comments in my other thread.
If I had posted it in a redheaded-stepchild forum for IMS only I'm worried it wouldn't get as many views and/or advice.
I know IMS is annoying to many and I understand why. When I owned a Jeep I got sick of every other thread asking 'how do I lift a unibody SUV' or 'what's the best add-a-leaf setup'. Every vehicle has it's discussion / problem points, they're going to come up often.
In my opinion, as long as you
first before asking your question - then keep em' coming. It doesn't hurt to have an abundance of new information. If people are asking the same (answered) questions over and over again, then maybe it's time to start locking those threads with a reference to the sticky DIY. Just my 2 cents.....
was just over on the 997 forum looking for Tim to bust his.......
saw 5 IMS threads (one disguised as "Porsche not made for track"...IMS = BOOM!!!)
there aint no stopping people from posting ...only the option to NOT OPEN the threads
waiting for the plane...?
did they have to take it in for "marbles in a coffee can"
I feel like chicken little - a little
but not lately - I dont think - (feeling self conscious)
LOL reading on the 997 board...."new to me 06' "
7 posts before someone posted..."be gentle with it. consider doing LN IMS retrofit to it as soon as possible"
poor guy didnt even get a single page of happiness - of coarse he only posted one pic, so I guess that's fair
Its funny to see 997 guys looking for scraps of information running around like a chicken without a head. Many are frightened about splitting the engine case just to address the IMS issue.
My plane's IMS held up just fine and have to bum around Amsterdam airport before catching a flight to Koln.
