Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use except' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use except' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey there,
I read not to let the engine "lug" and that these cars are meant to be driven to the upper parts of the RPM range. Sounds good (and fun) to me, but what to do on highway, on say 2 hour trip. Seems like 6th gear is all lug at normal (legal) speeds. Am I supposed to leave it in 5th, or 4th? I keep it in lower gear on twistys but am I supposed to just leave it there in traffic? I do sometimes just to listen but is that bad?
Thanks
On a well broken-in engine... a 6th gear at 70MPH on a flat road is about 3000RPM , far from lugging the engine. Lugging the engine would be dropping it close to 1000RPM.
stay above 2000 and you dont have to worry about lugging.
4-5 on the highway is usually what i do
3rd for overtaking

Usually shift between 3 and 4 , feels the best in that rpm range. On the highway again, usually between 3 and 4. I concur with others,I think lugging is bad for any vehicle. Definitely try and stay above 2000rpms. Anything lower then that , and the car will just look at you, as if to say...." what the ????
Cheers and safe driving.
6th gear is fine at 55 -60 mph (unless you're climing hills). If you want to cruise at a higher RPM (maybe you like putting gas in your car) then no harm will come to the engiine in a lower gear, You can drive all day long with the engine above 4,000 rpm with no problem. If you had a tiptronic, it would be in overdrive at highway speed anyway and the final gear ratio is the same for both Tip and 6 speed. Just keep it above 2,000 RPM. If this rpm range is bad for the engine, then all Tip drivers are harming their engines daily.
