Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When my RMS was replaced, they said they always do an oil change as part of the process.
Leading evidence: 'Replace when my rms' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair invoice' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Sometimes they forget to put the new oil on the repair invoice, so people think it was reused because oil does not appear on the invoice.

Yeah, if you DIY, an Oil change costs about $50, ($80 if you change the pollen filter).

Chances are theyre going to refill the car with new oil but theyre not going to change the filter.

When I said I wanted to confirm that it included the oil filter change, they said they would do it if I wanted, but would have to charge me for the filter element and O ring!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As part of the RMS or ISS replacement and repair, the engine oil gets replaced. So the wise Porsche owner makes sure his RMS gets repaired at about 15K, 30K, and 45K and saves $500 that he was going to give the dealer to get the Oil changed!
Since these things leak pretty reliably, and don't really cause any harm when they do, might as well put the inconvenience to some good use for free maintenance, and save some cash!
Wow... $500 eh? Is that what an oil change at the dealer goes for these days? Eek!
I've heard that rms replacement runs around $800... it seems odd that a procedure that involves dropping the trans, complete clutch and flywheel removal, pounding in a new seal, and reassembly, is only $300 more than popping on a new filter and draining some oil? To me, $800 for rms sounds about right...
The single most expensive part of my last oil change? The filter / o-ring and drain plug seal, around $15.00. And then 9qts of Mobil 1 at about $4.50/each.
So, that's like, $60 or so ?????

Yeah, if you DIY, an Oil change costs about $50, ($80 if you change the pollen filter).
But remember, the majority of P car owners that have the dealer change their oil are soft palmed Girlie-Men, and get in a total tither when the RMS issue comes up. These folks are the ones that could gain the most from synchronizing their Oil and RMS changes.
That isn't always the case. Oil is not changed when the RMS is fixed. They will drain it and put your old oil back in, if they are changing the IIS. I request for them to change the oil at that time. (Gosh I've had so many of them, I've got this down.) They actually don't even need to drain the oil when they replace the rms. Go figure.
The main seal is above the oil level, so the oil does not need to be drained. The intermediate shaft seal is below the oil level so it needs to be drained.
I have talked to the mechanics at my local dealer about this. If your oil is drained it goes into a big drum on wheels, where it is mixed with whatever else is in the drum. The oil is not reused. There is no way to get just your oil out of the drum. New oil is put in. Sometimes they forget to put the new oil on the repair invoice, so people think it was reused because oil does not appear on the invoice.
This is a smaller version of the drum my dealer uses.
Well, you are an all around nice guy!
However, I assume every dealer is different...I know TP stated that at his dealer they don't, but others do. So, it all varies.

I told them they must be kidding, and the agreed to do it gratis...
orient express, is your car in one of griot's catalougue? nice.
with regard to RMS, i had two (on different cars). both had ISS as well. they did oil and clutch for free. you need to find the right service advisor.
robyn, we got the same advisor. maybe we should send eric something!
Yes it is. Thanks for the kind words. It is also featured in the ReJex brochure.
We are also working a deal for it to be used in a Hollywood film as one of the good guys car.
