Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had the PSE installed on my previous '99 C2 and mistakenly asked them to do the wiring as well.
Leading evidence: 'Install on my previous '99 c2 and mistakenly asked them' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '4-8 hour job' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install on my previous '99 c2 and mistakenly asked them' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
It's probably a 4-8 hour job from everything I have seen (for the switch part of installation).

Suggestion
If you want the switch, you've got to run new wiring from the center console to the mufflers (lifting up carpet all over), install the switch and wiring to the fuse box, etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Think about not having the switch installed. It's really a waste of money. And anyone can install the mufflers if you don't do the switch. I had mine done at the local Midas shop for $75.00. Took them about an hour.
I do not find it to be a waste of money at all. I turn off my exhaust whenever I am around (1) the police; (2) my neighbors; (3) my three kids below 21 months old (it scares them, he he); and (4) my wife (who likes the sound but not all the time). I do not use it very often, but when I do, I am very thankful that I can. Of course, as with all decisions, the calculus is affected greatly by available resources.

If they install the switch, is there much interior work that they have to do in terms of taking apart things. I would prefer the switch, but if it involves too much fiddling with the interior, bad things could show up down the road.
Moogle - no way 200-300 with the switch. Its only an hour or two job to install the mufflers. If you want the switch, you've got to run new wiring from the center console to the mufflers (lifting up carpet all over), install the switch and wiring to the fuse box, etc. It's probably a 4-8 hour job from everything I have seen (for the switch part of installation).
I didn't install the switch and it never bothered me - its easy enough to take it easy on the throttle in those rare cases where you are trying to keep it quiet.
I had the PSE installed on my previous '99 C2 and mistakenly asked them to do the wiring as well. Cost me around $500 extra since they had to rip out the interior and wire the electronics. If you do not want the electronics installed (meaning exhaust valve is open all the time, with the electronics installed it cuts off at 30 mph and then back on at 50 mph)you should be able to have it done for around $200.
My '03 came with the PSE and had the switch....although its pretty cool to turn it on and off, I never really used it. In case you are wondering, if you have the switch, the exhaust still cuts off at 30mph and on again at 50mph. I personally would prefer it on all the time.
I always wondered why it went quite in that range. Can you tell me how to hack it?
TIA
Barry
P.S. I agree with the earlier post - I love having the option to have it quiet or loud, especially since I live in a VERY quiet and conservative street.
You bend out one leg of the four leg bridge on the back of the relay responsible for the switch. Do you have PSM? If not, you can just take out the bridge altogether. If you have PSM, you have to use the "bent leg" version or else your nav unit will lose the speed signal. I don't have quick access to the instructions, but do a search here and/or at renntech.org. I you cannot find it, PM me and I will send it to you on Thursday after I get back into town.

$100 at dealer w/o switch....$800 w/ switch. My wife insisted on the switch, I decided at the last minute against it (didn't tell her....BIG GAMBLE!). She drove the car and LOVED IT!!! She said thank God you didn't spend the extra $$$$. So I promptly took her to the mall and made a visit to Tiffany&Co.....let's just say I got the better end of the deal
2 hours for mechanical instyallation: i.e mufflers
2.5 hours for electrical instalation.
4.5 in total for my installation. and that's what every OPC should charge accordind to manual
