Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

please share your thoughts. this is from an e-pray 2003 996 cab. all other pics of the car look mint, do the rust covered lug nuts and other parts of brake indic any probs? thanks , john.

POST 2Original post

I don't think you can judge the condition of anything major by the appearance of the lug nuts. It might be a car that was driven in snow/salt, or maybe a previous owner rarely cleaned the wheels. How does the rest of the car look? PPI for sure, if you're serious about it.

POST 3Original post

There have been some reports of "garage queen" porsches with rust due to owners that will roll the car out on the weekend to wash it then roll it back into the garage. If the car never gets heated up, the water just sits and can cause corrosion. The car might be OK, but it could have other low mileage related issues.

POST 4Original post

It indicates that you snuck into my garage and snapped a picture of my perfectly reliable 996.

POST 5Original post

Other than being ugly there is nothing unusual here. Some stainless ones would easily fix the problem. As far as the rest of the rust - they all do that on the rotors.

POST 6Original post

Porsche lug bolts don't have the best finish. My summer only set looks pretty shabby. 20 mins with a can of wheel paint and they're good as new.

POST 8Original post

When I bought my car 2.5 years ago they were rusted. I swapped them out with new ones, but they are about the same now. A couple of years of daily driving (including rain) seems to rust 'em out. Not a big deal, IMO.

POST 9Original post

Paint the top hats (pic 1 & @2and paint the lug bolts (pic 3). Problem solved (pic 4).
