Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I can hear a slight knock when taking off from a stop or taking off from a slow roll.
Sounds like it is coming from the back of the engine somewhere. You really need to listen for it, radio needs to be off, etc.
I thought maybe trans mount, but its further back than that. I'll check motor mounts, but I doubt that's it. I did notice I am missing the rubber inserts that go into the frame of the car for the intake box. Maybe that's moving back and forth and making contact with the frame....I'll check.
Any other ideas of what it could be?
Knock or a clunk? When I hear the word knock I think of pre-detonation in the engine. Since you're considering loose things in the engine compartment I'm guessing it sounds like a clunk or a thud.
Is it persistent or just one clunk?
Its not engine knock from detonation.
I can reproduce it every time. just slow down or stop, then accelerate. You can take off really, really easy and you hear it. You can take off hard, and you will hear it, doesn't really get louder or anything with an aggressive launch. And you have to have the radio off to hear it. If its on, you wont hear it. Not something you feel either.
Maybe find something to wedge in the space where the insert for the airbox goes and test that to see if it fixes it? Could it be a CV joint? Sometimes the early signs of those failing is a thud/clunk when you go into gear.
Try wrapping the protruding "stud" part on the airbox (the part that fits into the blue rubber bushing) with tape to build it up so it fits snuggly in the receiver. If the clunking goes away, and you feel like being proper, you can order the blue rubber plugs
There are a bunch of things in the engine compartment that can go clunk.
I had a similar situation. Every time I accelerated from a stop or took a right turn without a proper downshift to keep the revs up I would get a "rumble" from the engine that sounded to me like chain slap. Turned out the problem was that the threads in the block for the screw at the front (car front--engine rear) that holds some clamps and the front of the skid plate, if you have one, had stripped and every time I accelerated the front edge of the skid plate would vibrate. It was loud enough that I was sure the engine was going to nuke at any moment. I also forgot the washers under the air box once and while not as loud still sounded like something was broken whenever I accelerated.
The rubber grommets have been updated to a 997 version that have 3 rubber tangs that hold the rubber in place so they don't come out with the airbox.
I had a noise from what sounded like the rear when I closed my drivers door turned out the studs on the rear quarter window had come loose and the glass was just hanging in there!
