Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Also, you probably shouldn't adjust your pressure for the warm up lap(s), but for the hot laps (the other 90% of the time).
Leading evidence: 'Adjust pressure' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust pressure' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
While running Cups on the C4S, I would start with about 32f/35r cold pressures then adjust to maintain 35f/40r hot pressures, as determined by a hard lap ending in the hot pits and checking pressures - not after a cool down lap.

The only way to be sure is by checking tire temps.

What is a good recommended starting tire pressure for front and rears on these?

Suggestion
My experience with running 26f/28r cold pressures on a C4S were that the first two or three laps noted a significant amount of tire roll, enough to worry about debeading the tire.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This will be my first time out w/ these new tires. What is a good recommended starting tire pressure for front and rears on these?
I'm going to an open track day so I can experiment w/ setups, and was wondering what is a good pressure to start with knowing that I may change as I go throughout the day.
What do you guys do use?
PS. they're on a 996 TT

35 is way too high cold and 40 is too high hot. I'm suprised how many people use hot pressure as a way to figure out how much air to use because it really doesn't tell you the full story and may tell you the wrong story.
The only way to be sure is by checking tire temps.
If you look at the info on TireRack:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...otsportcup.jsp
You will see:
Road Use: Vehicles placard pressures.
Road Racing/Drivers Schools/Track Events: Typically 25-28 psi cold rising to a target of 32-36 psi hot.
In my experience, for hot days starting at 30 psi front and 28 psi rear seems to get me pretty close.
Great tires in the dry!I think I run 23-25 cold the sidewalls are incredibly firm. However they are awful in the wet.I wouldn't drive on them in anything other than a light drizzle! Have fun !
I aim for 34/36 psi f/r
hot
in my cab. For the drive up, I pump 'em up a bit: 34/36 psi f/r cold.
My hot target pressures seem to correlate with 28-29 psi cold all the way around.
The Cups can be a bit greasy when new but after a few laps... BADA-
BING!
Darren:
Your cold pressures may work well with the lighter C2. However, his car is 600 to 700 lbs heavier than yours. My experience with running 26f/28r cold pressures on a C4S were that the first two or three laps noted a significant amount of tire roll, enough to worry about debeading the tire. IMHO a heavy car with a lot of power should start with a higher pressure and after the first session when the driver and tires get warm, begin to adjust to optimal pressures. Of course, I agree that temp is the best way to monitor tire grip relationships but that was not his question. BTW, the Michelin recommendations for cold tire pressures are for a vehicle weight of 3000 lbs.
I wouldn't run any tire under 30 PSI and certainly not hard (look what happened to the Ford Explorer's and their 26psi Firestone tires).
Turbo 18's are factory recommended 36/44 cold! I even up the pressure to get less understeer and use 32/32 street (for comfort) and 35/35 track (for quicker response).
WCE:
The construction of street and race tires are very different.
Race tires are much stronger on the shoulder area and running low cold pressure of mid 20's has not been a problem for me. Actually, I have to start at mid 20's to get hot pressure of 34 lbs.
However, you can run the CUP tires at 35 cold pressure but you will not be able to get the performance out of the tires.
Are radial tires likely to de-bead like that? I thought this was a problem with older bias ply tires, and not likely on radials. Any tire experts lurking about?
Dirtdoc -- I understand your point and I think debeading is unlikely, because you aren't going to push the limits on cold tires, and even if you did, there probably isn't enough grip in the cold tires to cause the bead to break. Also, you probably shouldn't adjust your pressure for the warm up lap(s), but for the hot laps (the other 90% of the time).
There is no one-psi-fits-all, it depends on many factors, alignment, driving style, driving skill, track, track temp, etc...
