Without the hardtop, use the tool as if you were installing the top...check the position of the tool using the green and red dots on each side to see if there's a difference.

Suggestion

I'm surprised that the hardtop bolts would loosen...my suspicion is that when you use the hardtop tool inside the car to lock down the hardtop on installation, it isn't fully engaging and therefore not locking on one side.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The driver side gap between the hardtop and the car sit 3mm higher than the passenger side. Plus if take the hardtop few times off and put it on the ground. The gap is much bigger on both side. Anyone can tell me the right way to make a correct setting?

POST 2Original post

I need further clarification. Are you saying that the gap on one side is only when you have the hardtop on the car? Are you further saying that when you place the hardtop on the ground, the gap on each side between the ground and the rear of the hardtop is equal in distance?

POST 3Original post

I think you can adjust by screwing in the opening on the car. I had the same problem and dealer did the adjustment.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are you saying that the gap on one side is only when you have the hardtop on the car? yes. I means if the hardtop was out a few times and store it on the ground. The gap between the hardtop and car will be greater on both side. The bolts from the HT is losing from time to time.

POST 5Original post

I see that you have a 986S. I'm not familiar with the hardtop mechanism (perhaps it's the same as the 996..just don't know). I'm surprised that the hardtop bolts would loosen...my suspicion is that when you use the hardtop tool inside the car to lock down the hardtop on installation, it isn't fully engaging and therefore not locking on one side. Without the hardtop, use the tool as if you were installing the top...check the position of the tool using the green and red dots on each side to see if there's a difference. If so, I would agree with Gery...get it adjusted.
