Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I recently bought an original GT3 front bumper for my 996 C2 01. I realised though that at my bumper the centre air inlet is not open, hence it is made out of the same material as the rest of the bumper. Having a closer look to other GT3 bumper at magazines, I found out that this area on the bumpers is open. I would assume that this should be open in order to provide more air to the possibly installed third oil radiator. Should I open it? Is it opened to original GT3 cars because they have already there an auxiliary oil cooler? What should I do? Please have also in mind that my car is black, which means that that specific point will not be seen as a non-opened item since both situations should look like black hole. Any advice or thoughts?

POST 2Original post

Harris, I recently fitted a GT3 front bumper to my C2. You are correct about the centre panel. I have left the bumper as it is. I also fits without the inner moulded grille piece that sometimes detaches itself from the OE bumper when you remove it!

POST 3Original post

The GT3 Mk I bumper (part of the Carrera Cup Aerokit I) comes with the center intake cover. You can remove this piece easily if needed (e.g. if you have a third radiator installed). The GT3 has the third radiator which is why you see the open center intake in the photos. .: programmatore :.

POST 4Original post

If u do any track days, u might consider opening it and getting a 3rd radiator! Reduces temperatures on those hot trackdays. One expense leads to another....

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

programmatore, you state that the kit comes with a cover that can be easilly removed. this how my carrera bumper is at the moment. ok. but what i am trying to say is that there is no cover. i have to cut it off, in order to have this hole!!! should i do it, even if i do not have at the moment the 3rd radiator?

POST 6Original post

Hey Harris, Sorry, I didn't realize the GT3 bumper was just one piece. I thought the center intake had a separate cover. My Ruf bumper came with a black urethane piece to cover the center intake (I remember my stock bumper came with a separate cover piece as well). Unless you plan on installing a third radiator you should probably leave it as is. Opening the center intake without having the third radiator may just add (useless) drag. .: programmatore :.

POST 7Original post

The GT3 has to be cut out. If you bought it new then it would have come with the trim that inserts into the new cut hole thus covering the cut mark. I had my shop leave the middle intact and saved the trim piece incase I ever decide to have it removed.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

correct!!! in the end of the day we want our car to be nicer, we do not want to have extra aerodynamic probs... since i am living in greece, hence, high temp, especially during summertime i am planning to install the 3rd radiator.. so i will cut it off now...(if i do not do it now that the bumper is not painted, i will have to paint it again if i will cut the hole later on) question 1 now: will the car look funny with the cut off piece and without the 3rd radiator. ( i am not planning to install the third radiator now, since it is winter time...will be doing it mid april...or may) question 2: is it possible to cut the bumper excactly as the cover from my carrera bumper is?so this way i will be not having aerodynamic problems before installing the radiator... thanks again

POST 9Original post

My center area is open for the 3rd...now 3rd and 4th radiator.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yes but your car is a 02 onwards car......

POST 11Original post

Harris, I think the big difference is that Kirby's car is a Tiptronic and I think comes with the third radiator standard.

POST 12Original post

Harris I live in Dubai and it is hotter than Athens, I was only suggesting the 3rd radiator if u do track days. If not, I would really question the additional benefit for street use. My car keeps temps pretty well controlled without in 45 degree centigrade heat. Only time I felt it could be an advantage was on the track.
