Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can you guys help me like you helped the other gentlemen in the OC? I'm thinking the range is $300 for a quality look over with paint gauge, Porsche diagnostic, etc. This is for an '02 C4S.

POST 2Original post

Lots of Bay Area Porsche specialists. All of them do compression / leak down tests. Some of 'em have the original Porsche machine / software to scan the codes. I'm not sure about the paint gauge. Will usually run you $250-$300 (2 hours of labor) http://pca-ggr.org/localmech.cgi I recommend: C.T. Automotive Porsche Repair 335 E McGlincey Ln Campbell, CA 95008 [phone removed] Modderman Service, Inc. David Modderman 1900 Old Middlefield Way, Suite F Mountain View, CA 94043 [phone removed] DEVEK 20983 Cabot Blvd. Hayward, CA 94545 [phone removed] and of course: SharkWerks Alex "Sharky" Ross 4444 Technology Drive Fremont, CA 94538 [phone removed] Or else try one of the several dealers located within 20 miles of SF. Carlsen Porsche is great !

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think I'm going to go with Sharkwerks. I really appreciate you sharing your recommendations, kind sir. Invaluable!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmmm I just called Sharkwerks... they don't do PPI. Can any of you vouch for any of the shops above or any other places in the Bay Area like you did with the OC inquiry?

POST 5Original post

I've heard good things about Devek but never been. Had a good experience with A. Bauer, but only been there once so far. For PPI, dealer is usually fine as well. Good luck!!!

POST 6Original post

I went to Kahlers in Pleasonton. You could give them a tray. $250 I think.

POST 9Original post

Here's another one that may be good. http://www.realmeangarage.com/

POST 10Original post

I did one on a car (which I did not buy) a little more than a year ago...? They were very good.

POST 11Original post

I used C.T. Automotive, they were very good, cost about $170. Andy

POST 12Original post

The guys at Real Mean Garage http://www.realmeangarage.com/ are great and do the service on my car. Check out their site. They are in Sunnyvale. So a bit a hike from SF. You may also want to check out Cars Dawydiak http://www.carsdawydiak.com/ They are on Bush and Franklin. I had my car detailed there and they did an awesome job. They also have a service center.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Forgive me for not being clearer... they don't do PPI on private party sales.

POST 14Original post

I agree with michollaock. I bought my brake parts from Real Mean Garage and they gave me dealer cost plus 15%....tot too bad. They were also very helpful in answering all of my questions.

POST 16Original post

Actually, no they do ... at least 1.5 years ago. I saw this car on Craigslist and took it to Carlsen for a PPI. I did not end up buying it, because we could not agree on the price.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update: I believe the seller is taking it to Modderman today Modderman Service, Inc. David Modderman 1900 Old Middlefield Way, Suite F Mountain View, CA 94043 [phone removed]

POST 19Original post

Modderman does my regular service... hes a great guy. Also, 2 years ago Carlsen refused to do a PPI for a priovate party sale... they recommended Modderman, and he PPI's a car i ended up not buying. Great report with all the little details checked and leakdown tests done. $250 as i remember.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thx for the vouch - just spoke with one of the guys there - sounds like they've been doing this for a while. they're going to fax the results to me.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So Dave Modderman called me post-inspection... I asked him bottom line out of 10, what rating would you give this car? Dave: "10"
