Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car is shaking more and more at speed arounf 70's. Is it just balance of the wheels or something more serious. Does unbalanced tire wear give you vibration?

POST 2Original post

I'm having wheel thumping in 80's (the 996). Mine could be balance or cupped tires (Bridgestones). I'm planning on new rubber. Shaking could be alignment, worn shocks or tie rod (my .02).

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What is a cupped tire? Is that what happens when the car sits around for too long?

POST 4Original post

Cupped tires are uneven cross wear patterns usually the result of worn struts. The uneven cross wear pattern results in a thumping noise.

POST 5Original post

Thumping is normal for a mile or two after the car has been parked for a few days. The tires take a "set". If you have thumping or vibration it could be wheel balance a bent wheel (hit any potholes?) a defective tire (belts do slip sometimes or, a wear anomaly like cupping. Is it worse while cornering? If so it could be a wheel bearing. A good tire shop will check for runout (bent rim, out of round tire or cupping while they balance the wheel/tire. No big deal.
