Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone know the widest rear tire size that will fit w\o rubbing on a 996 coupe. I currently own a '01 TT and I have 315\30\18's on it........will this size tire fit a non-torbo? Thanks Bill

POST 2Original post

They will fit on an 18x11 with the correct offset wheels. There is plenty of room to move in, but not out. You will need about 10mm more offset than a GT3 rear can provide (figure around 75mm).

POST 3Original post

There is no "plenty of room" about it. I didn't want to give away my secrets but I hate to see slightly incorrect advice given. The correct offset is crucial here... The tires will rub on the inside and outside, requiring you to make some modifications. If the car is lowered they will also rub on the top of the wheel well (there is a seam weld there and this size tire is taller than the stock tire). Of course my experience is with track tires, so for street tires, maybe you will not encounter enough forces to cause things to rub so much.

POST 4Original post

I run 315/25/19 and have auto X the car with no rub problems with a ROW M030. . A GT3 rim works fine and there is no need for a special offset.

POST 5Original post

So thats a different tire altogether. Its shorter, and of course you will get less deflection because of the shorter sidewall. The overall height isn't that different, the 18 is about .2 inch taller. Trust me that the MPSC 315/30 will rub. It didn't rub, in fact, at autox but it definitely did at the track. At autox the tires never get a chance to get maximum grip because they don't have time to heat up. Ill take some pictures.

POST 6Original post

Can I ask what width you guys run on the front with those super fat rears? How do you avoid huge understeer? TIA.

POST 8Original post

Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Let's get some rubber under these things. 205/50 PUHLEEZ!?!

POST 9Original post

Daren trust me we run these auto-x at street of willow in a DE style which puts plenty of heat in the tires. Track tires do deflect more which may cause the rubbing, and it might be the suspension set up you're running. Keep in mind that a 315/30/18 is taller then the OE size. 315/25/19 is about the same as the OE. Any way I would say you can go as big as 315 wide, but as long as the height is not that big. The safest bet is that the GT3 size is fine.

POST 11Original post

Really? Take a look at the attached pic. This is a set of 18x9.0/18x11.0" Custom made CCW 3-piece Classic race wheels with GT3 sized (235/295) MPSC's. The fronts have a 7.0" backspace and the rears have a 8.75" backspace. There is still over 1/2" clearance on the inside and you can see the clearance on the outside. A 315 is exacly .5" wider on the same rim over a 295. We test fitted a pair of 315/30 PS2's to see if they would fit and no problems. I am looking to move to the wider Corsas when I go to my next set of race tires.

POST 12Original post

I have the same exact wheel setup from CCW (except mine are black center). Here are some pics of what happened. The two pictures show the inside of the rear left, and two separate rubbing issues. The thin line on the corner is from the rear upper strut mount, the gouge in the sidewall is from a screw that is used to hold the shrouds. Also, my car is lowered about 3/4" or so, and I had to roll the rear fenders. From the pic below you can see where it previously had been rubbing. Like I said, these are track tires with the PSS9 suspension. I'm creating more g's with this setup than someone running street tires, but the suspension geometry obviously allows them to rub. Eyeballing the clearance while the car is sitting still isn't sufficient.

POST 13Original post

Darren, First, we are not running the same suspensions. I am running a ROW M030 suspension. My suspension components are obviously different, including: the spring diameters, mounts and spring perches (heights and shapes). The PSS9 cars I see are lowered a lot more than .75", usually 1.5-2.0" lower (similar to GT3 ride height). What is the height at each corner measured from the ground through the centerline of the wheel to the top lip of the fenders on your car? How much camber are you running? FYI, my car is exactly 26" from floor to fender on all 4 corners by comparison. The ROW M030 lowered exactly 1" in front and .75" in back. I am currently running -.8 front and -1.5 rear camber. I am upgrading to GT3 control arms to move up to -1.5 in front and -2.0 in rear.

POST 14Original post

My fenders are rolled. Check out my spec in my signature.

POST 15Original post

My ride height is 26 1/4 front and like 26 1/2 rear measured in the fender, its not actually that low, your car is lower. I'm running a lot more camber though, -2.5 front and -3 rear.

POST 16Original post

Interesting. I just discovered all of this over the weekend. I was running the JIC with stock GT3 rim/tires sizes and I had no rubbing. I moved over to the X74 OEM suspension, which is surprisingly LOWER than the JIC and there is definitely rubbing. There is no rubbing for me on the inside, but there is rubbing on the outside front tire. The problem would be fixed by rolling your front fenders, which was done on my car. However, it appears they have neglected to roll 3 inches of one fender, hence the rubbing. There is occasional rubbing on the inside tire well, but that's only at low speeds when you take a hard turn.
