Suggestion

I have seen people run C4S/Turbo rear wheels (18x11, 50 mm offset) on a narrow body as race wheels and then definitely stick outside the wheels.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi everyone. Newbie here. I have purchased 2001 c4 with factory 18" wheels. I wish to upgrade to 19" wheels and tires. I will eventually drop the car 1"-1.5" What offset and size of the tire is recommended on a c4, 19 " rim? Thanks

POST 2Original post

I wouldn't recomend 19s as an 'upgrade'. Great 18" reverse drop (big lip) rims out there now.....far more tire choices, far more 'practical' per bends, ride, etc..........if you get correct offset (push em out) and lower car......they will completely fill well.....look great. If it was a later 'S' and you were definately were after 'bling'.....then 19s.......just my opin.......good luck regardless.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What options do I have with 18 and a big lip? Tire choices? Thanks

POST 4Original post

Tons.........I wouldn't know where to start......search. Fikse, HRE, many On a narrow body....staying with basically stock rubber size (where you may have widest choice of tires).......you can easily go down to 50mm on 10Js and 43 on 8Js. Keep in mind.........going 19 does nothing (directly) for lip.......its rim width, offset, and wheel style.

POST 5Original post

what about going to a wider rear, lets say 10.5.. what would be a nice offset to get a nice big lip?

POST 6Original post

Well if you believe my 50mm on 10Js ...then another half inch is only 3.2 less offset.....needless to say, every inch more in wheel width is split in half (in & out) when translated to offset (ET= 'pushed in & how much)....and an inch is 12.7mm. Personally I say your 'start point' should always be deciding where you want the outer edge of your wheel-tire to sit relative to the fender & wheel arch...(ie siting down the side of car from rear or in front).....it's something I'm **** about and is always my 1st decision........that gives you your desired offset number and it can be applied-transposed to any style or size wheel you are shopping for. Good luck.

POST 7Original post

THere is a good site to start looking at wheels: http://www.wheelenhancement.com/ Here is a site that will help explain the wheel width and offset. http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp Start with your current wheel width and "play" with different widths and offsets. GreggT 25.4 MM = 1 inch.

Hey SIBEX, I'm in Reston VA and have a set of 18" Sport Designs that I was considering selling to my neighbor. He has a boxster though, and he is not sure if they will fit. If you wanna stop by and take look you are more than welcome to. Send me a PM. Vince.

POST 9Original post

Personally, I have no desire to put 19's on a 996. With the rear tire aspect ratio at 30 on 18's, there isn't a handling advantage going shorter; but the ride can degrade. 997's have taller tires, keeping the sidewall height and ride reasonable. If you are insisting on going this direction, look for a set of stock 997 carrera S wheels as the cheapest option ($1000-1200 a set used). They will fit correctly on a narrow body 996. You will need to run a 295 rear tire since the rears are 11". Be careful of offsets on other wheels. Most of the wider wheels are specifically made for wide body cars (Turbos and C4S). The stock 18" rear on your car is a 18x10 with a 65mm offset. There is plenty of room to move inside the rear wheel wells (i.e. more offset), just not outside. If you are going to lower your car that much, you can't go over 1/2" further out in back without rubbing. I have seen people run C4S/Turbo rear wheels (18x11, 50 mm offset) on a narrow body as race wheels and then definitely stick outside the wheels. Forturnately, these cars are not lowered; so they don't rub.

POST 10Original post

Do not forget the close relationship between the front and rear outer diameter required by owning a C4. Steve

POST 11Original post

You can fit stock GT3 rims on a narrow body car. The offset is 63. FWIW I have 19x10.5 with a offset of 57 and run a 315/25/19. The lip on my rim is quite large because I have the reverse lip three piece wheels from Iforged. HRE, Kinesis, Fiske can also provide a nice custom wheel to fit your needs. My car does not rub, but I am only running a M030 ROW spring so its not as low as you are gonna go.

POST 12Original post

The correct 19" tire application for this car is 235/35 19 front and 305/25 19 rear. Typical wheel sizing would be 8 or 8.5x19 front and 11x19 rear.
