Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hot blonde, yelled out window whilst driving away (I was checking my oil): "Take it home to daddy!" I don't think she meant it affectionately... *Sigh*

POST 2Original post

I think you misheard, she was probably yelling... "Take me home, sugar daddy!!" (men have always been accused to having selective hearing - may as well use it to our advantage )

POST 3Original post

Green-eyed blonde? How old are you btw, may I ask, for her to make that rude remark. If you look on the bright side, it means you look young!

POST 5Original post

23!? OK, do as she said..."Take it home to daddy!"

POST 7Original post

Don't worry about it too much, Justin. I went to get coffee at the Starbucks in the Reston Town Center with my friend. They're doing some construction there so parking was tight. I let her out of the car to buy the coffee while I double-parked the car in front of the Starbucks and waited. She said that a group of 3 women in line behind her at the Starbucks (I guess they didn't see her get out of my car) were talking out loud saying "check out that kid in the Porsche," and "that kid looks cute in that car." My friend just laughed and told them "Kid?! That old man is 33 years old!" (My friend just turned 27.)

POST 8Original post

ummm i get that a lot. once this asian lady pulled up next to me and shes like "nice car" so i replied "thanks" and then shes like "no nice dads car".... this could have to do with me being 16 years old (no im not spoiled yes its mine no i don't drive like an idiot) even though i said that people are still going to bitch that im 16. id tell the story how i got it but im to lazy to type

POST 9Original post

so obviously you didn't win it through a typing contest Steve

POST 10Original post

Damn, I didn't even get to start the countdown before another smartass beat me to it.

POST 11Original post

Thats too funny Justin. I think its time to drop that baby and add some new wheels to match the young' look. A little bling will make sure that its not daddy's car in the future.

POST 12Original post

You lucky young Porsche drivers..................I hope the rest of your financial picture is solid and your not trading your future for a couple fun years in a fancy car. I have seen it too many times:Nice car+nothing else=depreciating asset X too much partying / poor planning="I used to own a Porsche", This my sister's Yugo.............

POST 13Original post

... you know, just add some fluorescent purple ground effects, variable suspension a set of nasty wheels and it could truely look like a car belonging to a 16 yr old.

POST 16Original post

16 years old...your not spoiled? I guess you have been saving for 10 years or at 16 you have panned for gold and hit it big? You can't finance it at your age! If none of the above...you probably don't want to be talking about your profession huh! If it is something legit, than I apologize. Maybe it is better to just be spoiled and enjoy it!

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mundman, You never know. I made over $40k on a particularly lucky day in high school, once... I went and bought a nice TV, and when the salesman asked my mom what I did, she replied "He's a drug dealer". I think the guy believed her Anyway, the whole thing didn't really upset me (I mean, she was pretty cute, but I get rejected by hot girls all the time), and after comments like akif's, I'm kinda glad it happened livefreeanddie - I can afford it because I haven't started modding I'm in it because of my money management skills, not in spite of them. vove, see above! Maybe some bypass pipes wouldn't kill me (PSE for four-figures? EESH!)... Justin

POST 18Original post

Please do share. Then I am guessing you can answer YES to all of the following: Own your 996 outright Paid off ALL student loans Own your home or do not have a mortgage (living at home or renting doesn't count since that is not GOOD money management skills) Have a a good nestegg started for your future that you contribute sizeable to monthly Have no consumer debt Have enough liquidity that you could be without income for at least 6 months to 1 year. I am sure many would love to hear your money management skills. I know I would. Damn, I am in the wrong line of work b/c I couldn't answer yes to all of those questions till my early 30's.

POST 19Original post

I don't care how much money my son has when he is 16, I would never let him purchase a 996. I was pretty responsible at 16 but a 996 would have been a bad idea. Hope is works out well for you and you have enough money saved up for college.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dell, I'm a little put off by the skepticism*, but I'll actually reply to that with a serious answer. I can answer yes to every one of those but one, and I'm considering changing that now. I started by being in the right place at the right time - my windfall in high school was the best thing that ever happened to me. I went through $10-20k of cash in a year after that (RHAT, if you're curious). It made me realize how quickly money disappears if you aren't careful. Which was fine, since at the time I had no financial obligations. Better to learn then than later.. After that, I kept working, and discovered retirement savings. I am pretty sure I broke five figures before I left high school. Not a lot, but for my age, it was certainly a start. In fact, because i wasn't yet 18, my company wouldn't let me participate in their 401(k) plan. Since then, I've been maxing out 401k and IRA savings every year. I had a head start over my peers, and it shows. I negotiated several raises over the years... starting with piddly ones as my first boss or two would dismiss me, and eventually learning the skills to net me a $23k/yr raise in one go. Again, perhaps not a lot for the people on this board, but for someone still not even in his 20's, it was a good start, and a valuable skill for later on in life. Since then, my salary has both risen, but even more recently and significantly fallen. But living below my means cushioned that blow. I found an employer who will pay for school (and cell phone, internet access, three meals per day, etc.), and got in at a decent "floor" so that my stock options have been/are worth something. But because I can't predict the future, I do not count them in *any* way as something I can look forward to. They may be worth a lot one day, or they may be worth nothing. We'll see. So in the meantime, I live modestly - other than the 996 - and continue both saving and investing for the future. There are some details I left out (notably LNUX was good to me, as well), but generally speaking: spend less than you earn, invest, work your butt off, and learn from your mistakes. I bet no less than 99% of this board abides by these principles, consciously or not. That's why we're here. If you really want to pick apart any of this, go ahead. I'm happy with my financial past, present, and future (as these principles are solid, no matter what happens). The one thing on your checklist I haven't done is something that makes no sense for me to do right now, but that will change before long. Justin * - maybe not skepticism, but the right word escapes me at the moment

Some of the vehicles modified by the "mature" older sect of this forum are awfully garish for my taste.

POST 23Original post

justin props to you and anyone else rocking a 9 double i don't give a shiza how you got i just want to see pictures of it. if its worth blowing your entire wad on the car then i say go for it. sell one of your kids, beat your mom, knock over a bank!!! just keep driving i once had a guy break my ***** about being too young (33 at the time)(and possibly too black) to own a new 911. my financial house was none of his business. look i want the best for you, i want you to be making tons of money and saving for your future and all that but...i really mostly want to here about you car! i wish i was rocking one in med school at 26!!! just think about the women i smell a lot of hatorade here!!!

POST 24Original post

No scepticism. Just a response to your statement to livefreeanddie that you have these great money management skills at 23. Honestly I could care less how you live and frankly I didn't have ANY money management skills at 23. I was chasing women, drinking, and living off the genrosity of my parents. Just a question, that's all.

POST 25Original post

For what it's worth, I think you've got your act together. My first major car purchase was a new Vette convertible that I purchased when I was 26. Man, I loved that car, and although I've subsequently purchased many far superior cars, none has ever given me more pleasure than that Vette. Anyway, enjoy your car, and don't be concerned about whether or not others approve your choices.

POST 26Original post

it is an interesting question dell i remember when i first considered buying a 911 i was very uncomfortable with the price!. i was less than a year out of residency i had just bought a house for 260k (which was 5x the current value of the home i grew up in) and was driving a 530i (which at 45k was very expensive to me at the time too) i had less than a year of long term savings, and I barely earned 200k. the 911 seemed so very far above me. then i said what the f! i will only live once! so i leased it. all and all it worked out well. b/c of my work i am able to write off a good portion of the car. the housing market in phoenix blew up so i sold and made a bundle on my house and i am now in a much more lucrative practice. funny though, now that i am in an even stronger financial position what do i do? i went out a couple weeks ago and pre-ordered a significantly less expensive m3 i did wonder (re the 911) though...do i make enough? in the end cars, for the most part, are terrible investments. i say excect this and drive what you want if you can...life is short!!!

POST 27Original post

Totally understand Jason. I still can't believe that my wife and I have what we do and we certainly feel funnny (and sometimes guilty) having the things we do since 99% of people our age only dream of these things. I think the problem is that we (my wife and I and you included) spent our entire lives in school and then when that was done it was moving on to post graduate training (residency) and then BAM! You go from med school cluncker to 911. It is very surreal. We still can't believe the house we are currently building that it is really ours! By the way, are you talking about the forthcoming E90 M3? I have thought seriously about that as well. Hit me up in PM. I would love to chat with you about that car. Myself, I was a BMW guy before Porsche (had 4). Great to see you back on the boards!

POST 28Original post

Justin, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders, so keep at it and ignore the static (even if it was from a hot blonde)! At 23, your whole life is still ahead of you, so work hard, be responsible, and don't apologize to anyone for your success, and more importantly -- your choices. I'm turning 38 in two weeks, but actually ** got carded ** for a cocktail at a decent restaurant last month! My friends and family constantly tell me I don't look my age, and I know that, but I certainly wouldn't expect to still get carded every once in a while. I can only imagine all the snide remarks when I'm in my 996. Nonetheless, I simply don't care. The funniest thing is my wife is more irked than I am. She wonders why she doesn't get carded in these same instances.

POST 29Original post

"barely earned 200k" - i think that puts you *well* above the bulge bracket of 911 owners who've even purchased their own 911.

POST 30Original post

Damn, I have no money management skills and Im not joking either.

POST 31Original post

$$ is relative, if you happen to live where any single house cost 1M an up, has 2 kids going to college in the foreseeable future, no to mention student loan, etc. to me, my personal comfort zone is 3 months salary for those lux, toy. that puts me right into the used 996 market.

POST 32Original post

so just this weekend some fairly hot (maybe a 7.5 - 8) in the old infiniti j30 leaves a restaraunt at the same time as me & a few lights later when she is turning & i am going straight yells out 'is that really your car?' as i am only 28 this happens almost every other week. i don't let it bother me as i don't care what other people think. that being said i purchased the car for me as i have a love for sports cars. my family & friends know it is mine & that is good enough for me. don't let the bashers you meet when driving make you feel bad or guilty - just remember most of those people don't truly appreciate or understand why anyone would spend $$$ on these types of cars (and that is just sad).

POST 33Original post

I think I would rather be thought of as too young to afford the car than simply because I'm a woman, a man had to buy it for me. I guess it's all relative to that persons experience. I have had some very rude comments sent my way before.

POST 34Original post

Hmmm... I smell the Floyd Landis quotient being piled high.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Robyn, What's your secret? I've seen you posting forever (here and 6so) and never had the courage to ask Justin

POST 36Original post

My secret to what Justin? Owning the cars?? Hard work, a high work ethic and being absolutely driven to make things happen in my life; personal and professional.

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Robyn, That was pretty much what I meant - though I was also curious as to what industry you're in, or if you'd started your own business or anything. Justin

POST 38Original post

That car might be worth more than that C410/420 in the background with timed out engines!! If you are going to do hangar shots at least do it with some Gulfstreams or some serious Bell or Sikorsky retractibles!

POST 39Original post

I did well during the dot com period with employement at a high flying b2b ecommerce company going in as pre-ipo. Those were the good old days. Nowadays it's been more about investments and real estate. The whole opening my own business thing, been there, done that...won't ever do it again.

POST 40Original post

its so individual though! i work with a bunch of '2 doc' families earing 600k or more and these are the cheapest bastards you ever want to know! a couple of us in our group are car guys but emma and i have a relatively average household income compared to other docs in my group and yet i am the one in the 911. I know the car thing probably matters more to me than to them but it took me a while to not feel like i was an idiot throwing my money away....having said that i still park in a side lot away from the front of the ED where patients and staff can see me roll up. i feel like i have no frame of refrence for appropriate behavior some time. maybe i 'should' be driving a bentley, or a ferrari...but the thought of parking one of these at my work makes me very uneasy. i was talking to the older ob/gyn doc who is crazy loaded and literally has over 15 cars (including a 355, a rolls, original m3, a fire engine) and he said it best, "I like, I buy!" hey dell, how much doe do i need to pull down before i can rock out in a 360/430/599???

POST 41Original post

Hellicopters? Surely you jest! I'm a King Air type of girl. The Cessna was just what was in the hangar at the time.

POST 42Original post

but you got a nice a$$ ride bro and that has to count for something and i'm not joking! sometimes you just gotta give yourself a reason to get up in the morning and you got a yellow one!

POST 43Original post

thats cow $hit you smell...its not me though...its just doylestown as a former philadelphian i resemble you inference and as a cyclist i am still holding out hope that landis is SOMEHOW! innocent!!

POST 46Original post

How sad. Without provocation you attempt to throw feeble insults. Go crawl back into the hole whence you came. You are a drain on all intelligent life around you.

POST 47Original post

First of I want to applaud you because this is one of best retorts I have read in some time. Second, I ment you no malice I am just pulling your chain my brotha. I have a good friend who lives in Chalfont. It's a nice place. I visit often. Lastly, I am a bit of a troglodyte as the ED has been called a hole or a cave...so I have no argument for you here. Cheers! Go Eagles!

POST 48Original post

Sounds good. BTW, Eagles suck. I'm a Patriots fan.

POST 49Original post

Gee well let me see I have been to 3 wars deployed in almost 50 countries and generally saved up to buy my 911 to replace my old Corvette. I guess I am in the wrong business for making allot of money but what the heck I get to drive on the Autobahn daily and every once in a great while still get to go up and fly a jet that you people where nice enough to lend me. So thanks for the plane pray for our soldiers and enjoy a beer. As far as our younger 911 drivers go I am happy for you but never forget about the young private (same age as you)deployed in Iraq making $15,000 a year.

POST 50Original post

Thank you for your service to our country. Without you and people like you none of us would enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted.

POST 52Original post

Justin, Keep doing what you're doing. You remind me of myself when I was your age. I'm now 35 and just bought my first p-car. I starting working when I was 11 (paper route) and got my first real job when I was 16. I worked long hours after school and saved up enough money to pay for college myself (which is rare these days) as well as my first car (and three other cars while I was in college). I made more working part time then many of my full time co-workers. I was smart, I volunteered to work holidays at double pay, overtime, etc. I put all my extra money in CD's, etc. to earn as much interest as I could (this was the late 80's and early 90's so CD's where around 9%) After college I got married at age 25 and wanted a house. I had only been working in real estate for about 2 years so I worked side jobs, nights, weekends, and even delivered papers every morning at 4am to save enough to buy a nice house for my wife and I. We bought our first house at age 26 all on our own, with no help from our parents, etc. I still continued to work a couple of extra jobs and put all that money into mutual funds. No daytrading, just buy and hold. This was the late 90's so that money tripled. That house doubled in price and I had a brand new house built by age 32, which has since doubled in price as well. I no longer work odds jobs, it is more important for me to spend time with my wife and child. I've owned a lot of sports cars, M3's several corvettes, etc. and most people I run into think I'm way too young or look to young (I look about 27) to be driving these cars. I have them because I was smart with my money. I would buy my fun cars with cash, so I don't have any car payments, etc. I could have bought a more expensive 911 but I'd rather have that money in the bank. I keep a couple of years salary in the bank, and I have no debt except for my mortgage which should be paid off soon. Enjoy yourself, who cars what other people think. You're lucky to have a 911. I'm happy for you that you were able to have your dream car at such a young age!!! Don't worry about what other people think.
