Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The car's been inspected before and no one has ever said that they've heard such a noise.
Leading evidence: 'Inspect before and no one has ever said' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Inspect before and no one has ever said' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

this happend to my car ~15k miles ago and i was told that while it is fixable it is so expensive to fix that Porsche North America just replaces the engine...which they did on my car (still under warranty)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

[SIZE=7]I have a 2000 C4 stick, about 27k miles. No history of problems.
Today the car was at the dealer. The technician (nice guy, about 25 years old or so) had the car up and told me that he "heard a slight scraping noise in the area of the intermediate shaft." The noise didn't change when the clutch pedal was depressed, so he concluded that it doesn't involve the transmission. I've never heard the noise and he said that you cannot hear the noise inside the car.
He said that there' s nothing to be done because it's too expensive to diagnose the problem and even if he could it's cost prohibitive to fix. He said it could mean that the intermediate shaft was scraping, a bearing, or something like that, or it could be some noise peculiar to this car. The car's been inspected before and no one has ever said that they've heard such a noise.
The recommendation is to drive the car until the engine fails (if it ever does). Don't have an aftermarket warranty, so that's out. I want to take the car for a second opinion (maybe an adjustment to the timing is all that this is, although the tech said that he didn't think that was it). All in all, if it's somehting in the engine, is the only thing I can do is to continue driving the ticking time bomb until the engine blows? Not something I'm looking forward to doing.
So what to do? Thanks very much for your advice.

from my limited reading, you could exam your engine oil to see if there's any metal piece in it, which would indicate inter. sharft went bad.
search by "intermediate shaft" to learn. or otherwise, drive the car to the full extent!
my friend
i hope hope hope it is not an intermediate bearing/shaft b/c if it is that a new engine is the cheapest fix!

I would suggest getting a second opinion just to be ceratain!
good luck
well theres no diagnosis for a intermediate shaft if its bad its bad, (pull the trans start the car listen but then your just out 1000$ and its still there) theres no cure drive it till it stops
i have seen very very few (like maybe 2 pre 01 cars" with broken shafts
it deffinatly could be in the bellhousing pilot bearing or throwout bearing, ive seen some throw out bearings that make noise clutch in or out. Slight scraping noise u cant hear in the car doesnt sound like a failing inermediate shaft i wouldnt worry about it, youll likey get 100k more miles out of the car. I wouldnt worry about it with my own car unless i could hear it goi9ng down the road
