This is an urgent matter for me as the car is used as a DD and I commonly use the trunk.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

3 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am new to Rennlist and I am a new Porsche owner(2000 Carrera 2 - Guards Red/Black). I bought the car about 4 months ago and have enjoyed every mile that I have driven it since. I discovered Rennlist about 2 weeks ago and have become addicted to reading it. Everyone seems very cool and knowledgeable which given the state of other message boards this is no small feat. I wanted to make my first post with the obligatory pictures however I have run into a problem and cannot wait to post. My hood bonnet is stuck and it will not pop open. Recently it has been getting harder to close the trunk but it would always open when pulling the release lever in the car. I can hear the latch mechanism moving when I pull the lever so I don't think it is a problem with the release lever. I have also tried pulling up on the hood while someone was lifting the lever in the car but this did not work. I have read somewhere in the past that the latch mechanism in these cars are prone to problems, such as weakening of the spring and the latch moving off center, but I have never heard of the hood becoming totally jammed. I think there is an emergency release lever for the hood located in the passenger side headlight compartment(hard to get to?) but I would think this would only serve the same purpose as the release lever in the car. This is an urgent matter for me as the car is used as a DD and I commonly use the trunk. Any help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. The pictures are on the way.

POST 2Original post

Welcome tot eh best Porsche site on the 'net and congrats on getting your car! I believe the hood mechanism is different on a 2000 than on a 2004 (which I have) so, unfortunately, I can't help you with the hood latch problem. I am sure someone here will be able to help you. Again, welcome!

POST 3Original post

Congrats on the car! If you haven't found this site yet, a great resource on P-cars is Renntech . You'll find a LOAD of technical information there. If you are a handy-man (read as DIY freak) or get caught up in modding (very likely), Renntech is an invaluable resource. If you become a paying member on Renntech, you can access the Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) put out by Porsche that explain problems and solutions to those problems. Another great thing about Renntech is requesting part numbers for OEM Porsche parts. Loren really comes through with looking up the parts! Good luck with the trunk latch! -td

POST 5Original post

I concur with Loren. Viper's DIY is very clear, and worked for me in getting the latch adjusted. However, like you, I first had to get my jammed trunk open. I had my wife pull on the emergency release (which I had earlier located to a more convenient location) .... while I very carefully pried up on the trunk lid with a thin, but stiff, plastic kitchen tool. Lid popped up, and I then followed Viper's instructions to the letter. Ever since, the hood has closed easier than it ever did before, and smoothly as you would expect.

POST 6Original post

>>>Recently it has been getting harder to close the trunk but it would always open when pulling the release lever in the car.<<<< On my 2000, the bonnet latch became harder and harder to close until it finally wouldn't. I thought it was misaligned, but it was just dirty. Cleaning it w/WD40 did the trick.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the help guy's, it's appreciated. Kim am I correct about the location of the emergency release lever(In the passenger side headlight housing)? I will try gently prying the hood open while someone pulls the release lever, as scary as that sounds.

POST 8Original post

That is correct. Since you can't get the headlight out with the trunk closed, you must access it though the pax side front wheel well. I took my wheel off, and removed the wheel well liner, though neither is absolutely necessary. I would have been afraid to pry, also .... but Loren at RennTech gave me that tip, and I sure trust his judgment. It appeared I was not prying to force the trunk out of the latch ..... the latch was releasing. The problem was that the latch was misaligned, and the upward pressure to "pop up" the normal distance was not being applied. So, my prying merely lifted an un-resisting trunk lid to where I could get my fingers on the secondary release.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
