Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Manuell goes away when you hit the "Auto" button, but will come back if you adjust the fan speed or vent controls.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust fan speed or vent controls' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust fan speed or vent controls' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Could this be something that was changed with the 02 upgrades?

But the fans will run for added cooling with the AC on which is what I stated.

"Lo" is the temperature setting (means lowest temperature setting).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Something that has always nagged me in the 996: why does the temp control unit turn itself back on with each startup if I've specifically turned it off before shutting the ignition off? This stuff was always mechanical before, but with the 996/7's LCD digital technogadgetry, the unit somehow has the power to turn itself back on by itself. Any way to disable this nuissance?? Any help appreciated, as always.
You realize the car runs cooler with with the fan blowing? If you don't want the A/C on when you fire it back up just turn off the compressor before you shut it down.
Doesn't the cooling system already have radiators and fan? What does the fan blowing air into the interior space have to do with cooling the engine? And if that air were cooling the engine, wouldn't that mean it would be heating the interior space?
I thought the cooling fans (on the radiators) only came on when the A/C was on or the coolant temperature reached a certain temp. Dell I don't think the on/off of the climate control has any effect on the fans on the radiators up front (expect with the A/C is turned on then the fans definitely kick on) or the fan in the engine compartment.
The Germans have something against the climate control system staying off. My wife's 3 series BMW does the same thing. BMW goes one step more annoying though. Hitting the Auto button does automatically turn on the A/C. That must be manually turned on (for the life of me I can't figure out the logic in that).
I never said that the fans come on with the AC off. I merely said that if he didn't want the AC when he starts his car he needed to turn it off manually before shutdown.
But the fans will run for added cooling with the AC on which is what I stated. I guess my first sentence should have been ammended to state .....blowing as long as the AC is engaged.
IIRC, my AC control stays off upon restarts. The display will show desired temp with fan at zero which is OFF. If you turn down the fan by one button, it'll say OFF but that's the same as before.
I have an 02.
The A/C stays off but if you completely shut down the climate control system to where it says "off" does it say "off" when you restart the car? If so yours and my 2001s are different. The climate control system always comes back on when restarting the car. Granted at the lowest setting but on, nevertheless.
Manuell is German for "Manually" I believe. Manuell goes away when you hit the "Auto" button, but will come back if you adjust the fan speed or vent controls.
Is the system off when "off" is not displayed? If so what does the "off" setting mean?
Visiting our home headquarters today and took a friend to lunch who speaks fluent German, born and raised there
He said
Manuell
is not correct!!
He knew of no translation for this word and was almost embarrassed Porsche spelled it this way.
Anyone ever find out whats up?? I can nail him tomorrow with the reason and look like I know something
Not sure. Mine keeps the same settings as when I turn it off, when I turn it on. If it is in Auto when it goes off, it is in Auto when it come back on. Same for any cooling setting or turning it off.
I have the same situation. If I turn the A/C to Off, then when I restart the car, it does NOT say Off. It shows the temp, though the fan is on the lowest (perhaps off) setting. I've never understood this, but I vaguely recall reading somewhere why they (German cars) do it. I'll try to find the thread.
UPDATE: Here's what they had to say over on
RennTech
:
"Thank Ralph Nader. This is because of a fresh air (anti carbon monoxide) law he helped pass that requires fresh air in the passenger compartment on all vehicles."
I guess that makes fair enough sense.
I don't know what to tell you..all the web based German to English translators indicate that "manuell" means Manually or "with your hands". Also a "non-fluent" German speaking individual (i.e. had some college classes - albeit at a crappy school
) in my office indicates it means that also. What does your fluent German friend claims it means?
Interesting but what about the recirculate air feature? I think that if you have the "recirculate" air (which eliminates outside fresh air) on the system does not turn it off which would defeat this rationale. Also cars with non-electronic controlled climate control systems can be turned off and don't come back on? No answers from me just questions.
Good point, Bet. Moreover, it's worth nothing that the fan doesn't turn on (the setting is no bars when I turn off the A/C before turning off the car). So how the heck is it circulating? But, maybe it just opens the vents a bit to increase air flow?
How do you make it say "OFF"?
I just got my car back from the dealer, with the Climatronic unit
replaced. When I picked it up, the thing displayed "LO", which I
had never seen before. Of course, I never bothered to read the book.
Bill
"Lo" is the temperature setting (means lowest temperature setting). Just use the "+" button for the temp and you will get a number again.
To get the unit to say "off" you have to use the "-" button for the fan setting. Just keep pushing it and eventually the system says "off"
