Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have there been enough RMS replacements with the "new" seal for us to be more confident in their success vs. the "old" seal that often times needed two or three tries to stop the drip?

POST 2Original post

Mine was replaced 40k miles ago (15k).. haven't seen a drop of oil since I've owned the car...

POST 3Original post

(Kirk, I live in Bethesda also) I just took my 2002 in to have the A/C display replaced (under CPO warranty). They told me the RMS was leaking (although nothing was hitting the ground yet). Replaced RMS, bolts, and the intermediate shaft seal. Also they told me the engine had been previously been replaced. (I bought it used, with 36,000 miles). The technician at this dealer (HBL Tysons Corner, VA) seemed very nice and left me with a condident feeling he knew what he was talking about. He says the new "Cayenne" seal seems to be working. Bill

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The engine replacement thing is good. Had one done on my Boxster S. My C2 Cab is at Heishman's (sorry, Porsche of Arlington) and they have treated me very well over the past 7 years or so. I've just seen a lot of posts re: multiple RMS replacements. They seem happy to report that I'm getting the new seal

POST 5Original post

The new (Cayenne) RMS initially had a high failure rate post install due to the RMS being damaged as it was slid into position. PAG then redesigned the install tool to help prevent damage (nicking) the RMS as it passed over the tool and into the case....since then the Cayenne RMS has worked as planned.
