The car runs perfectly; the only issue is the rear glass latch is not working correctly, I have to fiddle with it to get it to close and it's rattling over big bumps, but I'm taking it into Ira Porsche Monday to have it adjusted or replaced, under the certified warranty.

Hood sticker is intact, I suspect the front bumper may have been touched up for the inevitable rock chips at 9k miles but there's no sign of any damage and the Carfax is clean.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is probably going to do down as one of the most ridiculous posts of all time, but ... my newly-acquired 2002 Targa has to go. I literally just sold my 95 Carrera 4 because my rock band is getting busy, and I was planning to buy an M3 for the bigger trunk so I don't have to rent a car to move the equipment (It's too expensive to insure a beater here in Boston). Then I thought about a Targa ... with the glass hatch that opens and the deep 996 trunk, it seemed like an option. Went down to the dealer and measured a 996 trunk ... 28 inches, just wide enough for my speaker cabinet, guitar and other stuff would fit neatly in the hatch, which in the Targa is cavernous. So, I bought a beautiful certified 02 Targa from a guy in Maryland, drove it home, got up in the morning, took my cabinet out there and discovered that the trunk is 2 inches narrower at the bottom than it is at the top and the cabinet doesn't fit. So, I just made a deal to trade the Targa on an 03 M3 convertible, they offered me a good number for it, which would net me $44k toward the BMW including the tax savings. Best that by $500 and it's yours. (That's less than I just paid for the car.) This car is super clean and has great options, and it's Porsche Certified till 2-27-08, which is transferable to you on a private sale. Here are the details: 2002 996 Targa, arctic silver over black leather, 6-speed, 46k miles, 18 Carrera rims (perfect rims) with Bridgestones (new rear tires), bixenons, onboard computer, cruise, PSM (traction), power seat package, heated seat package, Bose, CD changer, crest caps. The car has always been dealer serviced, it had one owner in Arkansas for 9k miles and then the guy I got it from in Maryland bought it in 03. He's sending me the records on it. Hood sticker is intact, I suspect the front bumper may have been touched up for the inevitable rock chips at 9k miles but there's no sign of any damage and the Carfax is clean. The car runs perfectly; the only issue is the rear glass latch is not working correctly, I have to fiddle with it to get it to close and it's rattling over big bumps, but I'm taking it into Ira Porsche Monday to have it adjusted or replaced, under the certified warranty. Cosmetically, the car is a peach, interior is in terrific shape, paint is fantastic, no disappointments. So, here's a chance to pick up a perfect certified 02 Targa, close to wholesale ... and it's no-strings, in a way; get the funds together, fly in and see the car, walk away if you don't like it and I'll just trade it. Only caveat is it needs to happen quickly, because as soon as Mass. spits out the new title to me, it's getting traded; I'm holding the M3 with a deposit. If I had the title in hand I probably would've just let it go yesterday, but I'd really like to see the car go to an enthusiast, and it's a shame to let the factory certified warranty go away, as it's only transferable on a private party sale. Will take photos today. Email [email removed] if you're interested but only if you're serious and have the funds available now.

POST 2Original post

just trade it then, no hassle. caution - m3 cab is very slow. i can't believe a 993 guy would consider a M3 cab. you better drive it extensively. the upcoming new 335 (i think that's the model) will closely match the performance of M3. as i mentioned in your post prior to purchase, i'd get a beater car instead. the hit you are taking can get you a decent integra which will haul all your gears under the hatch.

POST 3Original post

Good advice. The 335 will be in the low to mid 40's. The M's haven't depreciated all that much (2-yr old ones for high 40's) and their values could take a hit...
