Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

4.1 Note: For vehicles from MY99 up to and including MY01 the new mufflers can only be fitted using the existing muffler holder on the engine.

Man_of_Ice - that's good information to have and very timely because, hopelfully tomorrow, I will get my new (actually used) exhaust cans.

If not I'll look at doing what you did, and use the brackets from my current cans.

It had me baffled for 10 mins when doing the install before I realised that I had to use the old ones.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Started my PSE install yesterday. Things were pretty rusted up so I finally got the cans off this morning. When I went to hang the new cans I found that the support brackets on the new cans was different from the old ones. Apparently there is one set for cars through 01 (996.111.227.02 and 996.111.228.02) and a new style with a different bolts pattern for cars starting in 02 (996.111.237.02 and 996.111.238.02). Unfortunately, one or more studs broke off the old brackets so I can't re-use them.
In all the posts, DIY's etc. I have reviewed I don't remember hearing about this problem. Has anyone else encountered this problem when installing the new style PSE on an older car?
I reused the brakcets from the old cans on my install. It had me baffled for 10 mins when doing the install before I realised that I had to use the old ones. Never saw that info anywhere either
Man_of_Ice - that's good information to have and very timely because, hopelfully tomorrow, I will get my new (actually used) exhaust cans. These "replacement" cans have been modified to mimic the PSE cans. They have an extra pipe added, which exits the can from the capped end and connected to the pipe leading to the exhaust tips. Sonce there is no baffel to open or close like the PSE, they will always be on.
With any luck, my "replacement" cans will be from a '02 - '04 car. If not I'll look at doing what you did, and use the brackets from my current cans.
Man-of-ice,
I, too, was baffled, and felt especially incompetent as a DIYer when I later looked at the TSB .... which was right there on the floor with me .... and discovered at the top of Page 11:

When all else fails ...... you all know the rest.
