I think all of these guys are full of crap however, one of our own tested the Suncoast and proved the dyno correct.

Suggestion

It would not be that hard for any manufacturer to change the design slightly to give their generic product a unique look for rebranding.

True, but is there any way to tell if these small changes make a big enough difference in the overall performance to constitute an "orignal design" ?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So are the zteks copies of suncoast? I wonder who Suncoast copied? I think all of these guys are full of crap however, one of our own tested the Suncoast and proved the dyno correct. I really don't buy the Suncoast story of "we" tried so many variations..................... I think they are all just trying to make a living off ebay sales. If the ztek numbers are the same as Suncoast, I think that's great but I'm highly suspicious knowing they tried to decieve me with doctored suncoast dyno prints and the fact they copy the verbage for their own ebay ad. It really would be cool, if someone could source all of the headers and perform a shootout! I think we'd discover most are identical in design with variations in metal and weld quality. So, who really made the original design?????????????????????????? Tonight at 7, after Sienfield.

POST 2Original post

From what I can put togeather (I can't prove it just my conclusion) All three of the vendors Ztek, Schnell and Fabspeed have almost identicle designs. Suncoast is the only Header that looks different (see collector photos below) As for performance I have no Idea I did not Dyno the header. I think a Header shoot out is a fantastic idea. I would love to see Excellence or 911 Mag. do a feature article on the process and results... This thread helped me draw a conclusion: https://rennlist.com/forums/911-turbo-930-forum/258635-what-happened-to-the-fabspeed-made-in-china-thread.html Schnell, Ztek and Fabspeed are made by this company: Suncoast has their own header, I am not sure were they fabricate their header the collector is not as polished as the headers below: Fabspeed,Ztek & Schnell Collector

POST 3Original post

well I saved most of the "other" thread (including the photoshopped dyno-plots) so if Zerotek are less than honest next time around I will just repost it...

POST 5Original post

jason, can you please email me that thread and all info you have? i was approached by Ztek for distribution in Canada, and am trying 2 assemble as much info as well as interest before i proceed.

POST 6Original post

The ZeroTek header Group Buy thread was removed as it was obviously an attempt to use Rennlist for free advertising by someone who is not a Rennlist Sponsor. In addition, Group Buys are customarily organized by paying members (the original poster was not a Member), utilizing Rennlist Sponsors, after approval by a Moderator or John D. Marc

POST 7Original post

Aren't Fabspeed headers much heavier that ZTek? SANDOVAL posted that his ZTek's came at 6lbs a piece. From that "Jim a mathingy" paper, they most closely resemble some fabspeed stuff, but I did notice that the mufflers are different in design than ZTek, and wasn't it proved that Jim Exhaust provides exhausts to Fabspeed? I don't know about Schnell, but they advertise that they are made in Germany and imported here? Anyone got more pics to compare or numbers, weight etc?

POST 8Original post

It would not be that hard for any manufacturer to change the design slightly to give their generic product a unique look for rebranding.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I figured the poster remvoed the thread because it looked stupid. I know it was edited several times. I have the doctored dyno saved as well. I thought that was pretty bold. Sandoval, love your car and thanks for the info. I read up on your original thread about the install. Have you had a CEL yet? The pipes look nice to me, I just smelled a rat and wanted some validation. That's great info about the JIM brand.

POST 10Original post

Still no CEL.... Will see how it holds up after the spring/Summer driving. I have driven the car a dozen times since the install. The PSS9 install & Expansion take replacement kept me in the air for a month. Waiting for parts and time .

POST 11Original post

True, but is there any way to tell if these small changes make a big enough difference in the overall performance to constitute an "orignal design" ? Its true that many companies make slight modifications to their own already existing product and "remarket" it differently. Like for instance changing the type of muffler core or pipe diameter, thus increasing 10db to market it as a "race" version. But a modification such as this could change the overall peroformance of a muffler, increasing sound, and performance? (eg. modifying a stock muffler, removing baffles and restricitons and welding back up). Well, I wouldn't be suprised if everyone of these exhaust companies have 3-4 of their competitors exhausts and stock exhausts in house to compare and use them to develop their own systems. I guess pretty much all exhausts systems "look" similar as they all bolt onto the same car, but maybe comparisons between brands should be more on numbers, muffler core, and sound comparisions than looks. Hopefully some mags are reading this and will write up an article comparing the different systems out there.
