Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The old ones are a bear to remove I ended up using a torch and still cracked one of the bolts.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Need replacements for rusted mufflers on my 1999, 996. Choices are either OEM, or an aftermarket setup. Wouldn't mind a deeper, throaty sound. Suggestions? Experiences? TIA

POST 2Original post

I recommend the GHL mufflers. The sound is awesome, they look great, precision construction, fairly easy to install..... Getting the old rusty ones off may be a pita but you'll be glad you did when you hear the GHL's. They cost around a $1,000.00 w/o tips. Unfortunately you missed the "winter" special where they were offered for $700.00.

POST 3Original post

Intro and pics first??? One post and asking for help on a 996 you ALREADY own is going to upset the locals Besides, we LOVE pics here

POST 4Original post

Agree GHLs about 1/2 the weight the sound is great!

POST 5Original post

Whatever you get, Fabspeeds are my choice, get them with tips and new clamps for the tips. The old ones are a bear to remove I ended up using a torch and still cracked one of the bolts.

POST 6Original post

dell is right, you don't want to get us upset.... but FABSPEED is my vote. And since you're new, if you do a search, it will bring up thousands of posts and information regarding each option. There are also sound clips if you dig deep enough. Search is definitely your friend...
