Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I run 44/36 psi on my cross country trips and often forget the spare at home.

I set my cruise control on 95mph the ENTIRE way and my V1 saved me at least 4 times- well worth it.

Suggestion
I'd bring the full spare, keep the tire pressure a little above recommended levels for the best mileage, a V1, an extra quart of oil, and bring plenty of CDs or an iPod.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Folks,
Am about to leave on a 2000 mile road trip with the P car this weekend.
- what tire pressure is recommended (mainly highway driving) ?
- anybody ever ditched the reserve wheel in order to get some more trunk space ? I ditched it in my Viper, just took a couple of cans to reinflate with foam in case of a flat.
Any other stuff that's important for long road trips ?
Thanks in advance,
I run 44/36 psi on my cross country trips and often forget the spare at home. (better to bring with you tho) Good advice above regarding the credit card. Throw your extra key in you pant pocket.
I would follow normal inflation numbers for the tires. You should bring some stoner window cleaner or windex and a micro fiber towel to keep the windows clean. Other than that and maybe a spare quart of Mobil 1 0w40, enjoy the ride. Last summer I took a trip from NY to Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago and returned back to NY, about 1900 miles and no issues with my 996. Oh, bring a good radar detector...Safe travels, where are you going anyway?
The 996 does not require any special items or treatment for such a trip. I would not leave the spare tire home. Large punctures will not be plugged by the tire foam. Take with you the standard safety items that one would normally take for a long trip.
All good advice. I've driven my 996 from Minneapolis to Seattle and down to the Redwood National Park and back, plus all over B.C. I'd bring the full spare, keep the tire pressure a little above recommended levels for the best mileage, a V1, an extra quart of oil, and bring plenty of CDs or an iPod. A cup holder if you don't have one is nice too.
Thanks for all the advice !
Am planning to go on a Florida trip, starting from Atlanta.
Want to visit Cape Canaveral, South Beach, the Everglades and the Keys.
I just got back the other day from driving from San Diego to San Antonio and back (nephew's Air Force boot camp graduation).
Before I left, I brought it in for a 90,000 mile service (I have (had) 87,000 miles) to make sure nothing was gonna break on me.
I bought an "ultimate cupholder", a Valentine 1, and got some new tires. I set my cruise control on 95mph the ENTIRE way and my V1 saved me at least 4 times- well worth it. It was a fun, easy trip and it performed flawlessly.
