Suggestion

The real question is how you drive your car and would the noise bother you, personally the noise would drive me mad thus the reason I did not do it when I replaced my clutch and flywheel.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I saw in a post a few days ago that there is additonal maintenance and noise when using lighter flywheels? Has anyone experience this with their lighter flywheels?

POST 2Original post

No issues with mine so far. It makes a slight noise at certain RPM's but it now hardly noticible to me. It does mak a big difference IMHO. Eric

POST 4Original post

My understanding, note I do not have one, is that it will make noise at idle with the car in neutral. Outside that it will let the engine spool up quicker when you step on the gas, a good thing, but will also let it spool down quicker when you are off the throttle, a bad thing. Ultimately my understanding is that if you track your car the positives will outweigh the negatives and vise versa for a street car. The real question is how you drive your car and would the noise bother you, personally the noise would drive me mad thus the reason I did not do it when I replaced my clutch and flywheel.

POST 5Original post

A grinding metal on metal type noise at idle (sometimes, not constantly) and if you lug it. Otherwise, very fast revving of the engine. You also got to be a little bit quicker during heel-and-toe because the RPMs will drop faster too, but I like that it makes me a better driver to be able to do that.

POST 6Original post

The noise is simply the transmission gears rattling when the car is in neutral and the clutch engaged. The heavy dual mass flywheel was specifically designed to eliminate these gear vibrations. They cause no real harm, but you car will sound like a cement mixer full of loose rocks when the transmission is warm and standing in neutral. Every racing Porsche ever made sounded the same. Cheers,
