Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was getting on the freeway today and as I was accelerating the rear end started to wiggle or shimmy a little bit. I was doing about 80 and the on ramp has a sweeping right hand turn to it. I have felt this a little before but today it was more noticeable. A month ago I lowered the car with H&R's and put 19's on it. The wheels were balanced when I got them and the car has been realigned after the spring install. Any advice would be grateful

POST 2Original post

Jack up the back of the car and check for loose stuff in the suspension. I would bet you have a bad rear tie rod (see thread on wheel bearings) but it could also be a bearing or a ball joint. Jim

POST 3Original post

Of you can, have someone drive your car and follow behind him or her. You may be able to see the cause of the wiggle. Wheels, tires, suspension.

POST 4Original post

Check your shocks/dampers. Your discription can be symptom of a dying or dead rear shock/damper. Ask me how I know....same thing happened on my 993 when H&R springs were installed with the factory dampers (the springs and the shocks are not matched properly). Factory shocks gave it up and the car did not handle properly. If it is a bad shock the problem will get worse as the shock wears more. At first you notice it in sweeping corners then you will start to notice it in a straight line when going over bumps in the road. The rear will feel like it is swinging ever so slightly.

POST 5Original post

Can you be more descriptive? Does it feel loose? Is it a vibration? One side or equal? Right-left or up-down?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Side to side and I can't tell if it is equal. It just wants to bounce and swing at the same time. Is that more helpful??

POST 7Original post

Have you driven behind it yet? A movement as much as you described should be easily seen from behind the car.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, I have not mastered that skill yet!!!!. but to answer your question I had a friend drivfe behind me and he had the same discription

POST 9Original post

If someone following you can see it happening, then it is most likely suspension. Take it to the dealer (if it is under warrantee)

POST 10Original post

Sounds exactly like my problem when one of the shocks completely died on my 993 after having the H&R's with the factory suspension.
