I used 1 lb higher pressure in cooler weather to get an all around 30 lb in every tire once they warmed up.

Suggestion
I take a spare set of street wheels tires "in case" that way I can drive to the track on them and then put on the track set when I get there.

I can use the local track every Friday for $30 as its test day.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I want to buy a set of tyres for the occassional track day. Not a serious race tyre but a better alternative to road tyres on the track. I believe that there are some tyres that are road legal so I can drive a few miles to the track and back on these tyres. Preferably an all round tyre for use in the dry just to have more fun on the track and one that does not wear out after one outing. Any suggestions?
I have a full set for sale.

Starting from best to worst (in my experience)
1. Khumo VictoRcer
2. Toyo Proxes RA-1
3. Dunlop Super Sport Race (discontinued)
4. Michelin Sport Cup
5. Yokohamas, etc....
Eli......you ranked MPSC at #4? Care to elaborate.....I would be very interested to hear your thought on the top 4 you listed and why you ranked them the way you did. I am going to be getting another set of tires in the spring and just trying to get as much info as possible from those with experience. I have gone through my 2nd set of SO-2's on the track and think it's time to move up to a more track specific tire.
Thanks!
Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires are great at the track! I'm told they can work for driving to the track and mild rain, ( though I drive with Bridgestone SO3's on the car to the track to use if there's heavy rain, and carry P Zero Corsas on the top of my car). Look up this post though for tire pressure: "Warning: Pirelli P Zero Corsa tire pressure". The low tire pressures worked very well this season. I used 1 lb higher pressure in cooler weather to get an all around 30 lb in every tire once they warmed up. you might want to also see: "roof rack for tires on a 996,(997?)".
Dell,
I think he rated them based on street usage as well. I got the impression that the OP wants to keep them on his car off track as well. I don't think the MPSC's will last very long if driven daily. Other than that, I would put them at the top of the longest lasting, grippy track tire catagory.
I think he wants a day to day tire that can be driven on the race track for "occassional" DE's. For this type of use, especially if it rains, a DOT r-compound is not the best for him unless he wants to buy another set of wheels.
Stuart,
Like you, I prefer not to have to bring spare wheels and tires to the track. I drive about 80 miles each way to get to my home track. For this kind of use, I prefer the Pirelli P 0 Corsa. They are almost as good as the Michelin Cup in the dry, and are acceptable in wet conditions. You can drive to and from the track in rain at reduced speeds in safety. The Dunlop SSR was a good and veryt cheap alternative but thay have been discontinued. Consider also the Pirelli Corsa System - like the Dunlop this is an R compound trie with a street tread pattern with lots of water evacuation. It is the OEM tire on the Ferrari Stradale and the Porsche GT3 RS (europe only).
Lastly, are you sure you are ready for an R compound tire? I assume you have more than a few track days experience. If not stick with street tires for a while longer.
Best,
Thanks Mitch, that's what I figured. Makes sense now. Track only I am going to put MPSC on my track wheels. I take a spare set of street wheels tires "in case" that way I can drive to the track on them and then put on the track set when I get there.
I prefer RA-1s to Michelin's unfortunately they don't make them for an 18 inch wheel (rather they do, just not for the rear of our cars). The dunlop R-compound tires outlasted my michelins 3 to 1 with just as much grip on track, plus you can "hear" them and determine the rate of the grip depending on the noise. The thing I dislike the most about Michelins is that they give you very little warning before letting go....
wow thanks guys for the responses. I do have a spare set of wheels having just changed the horrible 996 5 spoke wheels for BBS wheels. I live just 5mins away from a race track but prefer to drive there and back. will go with the Corsas . I have S03's on the car for everyday use. I can use the local track every Friday for $30 as its test day. Mostly Porsches turn up for a real blast cos thats what they are designed to do. I cannot get enough of that sound down the straight at 200kph close to the red. There isnt another car comes close.
thanks
