Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The same thing happened to me as Kirk S and you need to put tape over the cell phone connecter behind the center console and replace the fuse (the vapor evacuator valve closes and doesen't allow the tank to fill).

I had my filler tube replaced several years ago for this issue.

It takes me like 4 minutes to fill the tank I have to pump it so slow.

The only way that I can fill the tank is to allow the nozzle to dispense gas very slowly so as to not trip the nozzle cut-off.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 99' Coupe that I just bought and everytime I try to put gas in the tank the nozzle clicks off like the tank is full. The only way that I can fill the tank is to allow the nozzle to dispense gas very slowly so as to not trip the nozzle cut-off. Does anyone else have this problem? It takes me like 4 minutes to fill the tank I have to pump it so slow. I know this cant be right. At least I would think not. Any suggestions?
definitely try another station - i had this happen at a 76 station, but have gone to Mobil, Chevron, and another 76 and the problem has not repeated itself. I pumped gas to pay my way through college, so I'm pretty sure I wasn't doing anything wrong at the place where I had a problem! If this doesn't fix the issue, you'll have to have a mechanic look at the filler mechanism.
Here's something to really be careful of when filling up with gas:
If the rubber housing of the gas pump lever is worn away, then it can often rest on the body paint of the car when filling up. I'm always very careful to hold the pump in a safe position so as not to scratch the paint.
And why, might you ask, am I this careful? That's right: because some years back, I scratched my paint just under the fuel door filling up wiht gas. It's a pity that Porsche doesn't include the rubber covers around the fuel cap anymore that could unfurl and protect the paint from scratches and spilled gas. Then again, it's all in the name of cost savings, I guess.
I got this really cheap product that is made of rubber. It fits around the fuel intake and when I open the fuel door it unrolls and provides protection from the pump and fule drips.
So far, I've only put gas in my 996 once and it filled at a normal rate. However, after the nozzle clicked off automatically, I tried to add a few more cents worth and it overflowed. I've never had this happen on any other vehicle.
Edward,
Here's one from Tweeks (Mid America Motorworks). Don't know if its any good but I was considering ordering one myself. It looks like a flat piece of rubber that's been cut to shape.
Tweeks Gas Filler Guard
Scott and Statman,
Thanks again for the recommendation. I received the Tweeks filler cap guard last night and it seems exactly like the Porsche rubber protectors of old. It sits around the gas filler intake as you mentioned and folds two ways for extra protection just like I remember. I can't wait to put it on the car.
Take care.
i once accidentally shorted my cell phone connector under the dash console while seeking rattle fixes...found that i couldn't put gas in the tank without it spilling all over the fender. replaced the blown cell phone fuse and all was well again with gas filling. love these german car quirks
The same thing happened to me as Kirk S and you need to put tape over the cell phone connecter behind the center console and replace the fuse (the vapor evacuator valve closes and doesen't allow the tank to fill). I found pictures of this on renntec.com. The cell phone connecter fuse is on the same circuit as the valve that closes the vapor evac in the filler tube. Will
