Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I just recently hit 50K miles on it and the only things that I changed was the coolant reservoir(under warranty) gas cap (recall) and the clutch, so I had them change the RMS seal at the same time.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey, this is my first post, and I would like to finally get my first Porsche. I'm currently studying in Dubai U.A.E, I dont know if any of you have herd of the place but yeah, we have the 7 star hotel.
ANYWAYS, used to live in Illinois, and I have been a Ford guy all my life, but out here a Ford doesnt really cut it... So, here is the car I am looking at.
1999 Carrera 4
60,000kms
I want to know what I am getting myself into by buying this thing, what are the things to look for? These Porsche engines are like nothing I have ever seen before, so I dont know where to start!!!!
here are pics just for the heck of it (sorry for the quality, Camera phone)
opinios, ANY feedback would be great! Thanks!
Are you sure that is 1999? That looks like a 2002 or newer.
Did he change the front end to look like a 2002? Take a pic of the VIN and post it. That way we can tell what year it is.
says its a 99, the guy did change everything to make the car look like the newer models, maily why I want to get it.. The owner of the showroom is a close friend to one of my friends, he wouldn't rip me off. we know this guys history. Plus not only that but he is a Ford guy too that used to Live in Iowa... Small freakin world man.
Car looks nice, I just picked up my first P car also, a little worried about up keep and maintenance, but I figure it could not be that much more than what I was paying on my Bimmer.
Actually I have not even taken delivery yet and I am having some work done. The first thing I got done was my RMS (Rear Main Seal) that what everyone seems to complain about, leaks and stuff. Mine had some oil build up but no leak. Mechanic advised I change it anyways just in case. I would check that. It seems to be a common problem and from what I have read most people says it is just part of owning a Porsche.
Other than that the car looks great, not too sure what the market is like for Porsche in Dubai, but from the pics, the car looks nice.
Third pics shows a funny gap in the headlight and fender to the bumper. Probably from the upgrade. I am not too sure if that is normal, like I said I just got my first p car and have not even taken delivery yet.
Does the other side have the same gap?
Anyone else know rather than have two newbies give each other advice.
I noticed that gap too.. figured it was from the upgrade too.... Dubai is like the Porsche city, seriously a dime a dozen the Carreras arent as bad as Turbos and Chayennes(sp?) <those are EVERYWHERE.. Never thought I'd see myself in one until I drove one... Then it was love.
I have two bimmers too. Paying out my *** on fixing them, especially the 98.... But, dealerships are dealerships. I hear Porsche are really bad with over charging though.
i have a '99 C4.....just turned 52,000 mi. on it. no major problems to report
replaced the mass airflow sensor at 44k. service bulletins were issued on the coolant reservior and seatbelt buckles--replaced both. '99 was the first model year for the 996's and there will always be those that will tell you to stay away from first year models....but i love this car! even my indie mechanic who is an air cooled purist is impressed by this ride.
did they change the headlights when they did the tubo package?? these don't look like '99 headlights???
good luck
Kind of off topic but how did you get to studying in Dubai from Illinois? I have spent some time in the middle east(Kuwait and Iraq) but not Dubai. My father has been there I am I hear it is pretty nice. I think I have seen the hotel you talk about. Is it the one with Tiger woods on top of Helo pad?

So your mechanic told you to replace a seal that wasn't leaking? Based on the information I was able to get over the years from three different Porsche Dealers in my area, RMS leaks occur in about 20 to 25% of the 996s that they service. So for at least 75% of 996s, RMS is not a problem.
I have a 99 C4 and I have to say that I am very happy with it. I just recently hit 50K miles on it and the only things that I changed was the coolant reservoir(under warranty) gas cap (recall) and the clutch, so I had them change the RMS seal at the same time. There was no dripping of oil but it seemed as if it was tearing slightly . The clutch was the only repair that I had to pay for out of pocket at 45K miles.
I live in NY but I work for a Bank that is based out of Dubai. I hear that its really hot there.
Sounds good... Now I need to make a decision whether I want to go back to the U.S or stay here...
Ok, heres my story for those of you who car. My dad is From Saudi arabia, I went to school there for 16 years then moved out to Illinois Alone. My Family and I have been going to our home in Illinois for several years before then for both summer and winter vactions. Now, I decided to get out of Illinois because the school opportunities weren't working out, and I got very side tracked have a Whole house to party in for 3 and some years...
I decided to go back to the Middle east because I love the way things are here, plus the weather in Illinois was killing me. Dubai has always been a vaction spot for me, with everything that is over here... I love the lifestyle and the money, love the atmosphere, love the weather. Seriously, I have travelled the world and this is where I choose to stay (I think).
I have been to all the hotels out here since I have come out here so much. Now I'm 20, Live in the Dubai Marina with the persian gulf as my veiw. Go to hookah bars, clubs, and anything that comes to mind at night. Love the beach and the desert during the day. oh, my '98 is what I drive here, the '04 is in Riyadh, and my '01 Stang and bronco and in the garage in the states.
My stay at the Burj, (pics I took and posted on another forum NO56K)
