Since I only wanted to use wind tunnel tested aero parts, I stuck with stock Porsche aerokits, which included a front lip in addition to a rear wing.

Suggestion
Mine is set "neutral", i.e., so that the edges of the wing are aligned with the top of the supports (looks smooth visually).

Suggestion
The top ends on these cars are ridiculously high, so, unless you are racing AND you find that you are losing time on the straights, you might want to set the wing to its most aggressive position.

Suggestion
If you only use your car on the streets, then I would leave it in the neutral position because it looks the best.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well i have had my porsche for about a week now and i figured what the hay so i floor it. Not sure what speed i got to but i know above 150mph. i was in 6th gear and about 1500 rpm from redline. all i have to say is at that speed the car felt like it was going at around 50mph. these cars are crazy stable at any speed and i just find that insane. i never thought a car could be like that at thoughs speed i always thought vars at thoughs speeds start to jump around and stuff expessilly a car as light as the prosche but i was proven wrong. so i was just wondering how fast have some of you gone.
1. 185 Mph - 297 Klms/h on my 996 C2 01 55.786 klms on the clock...
2. 178 Mph - 285 Klms/h on my 964 C2 92 435.000 klms on the clock!!!!!
3. 175 Mph - 280 Klms/h on my godfather's 993
Yo Mikepl. We got a buiness in Warsaw and Krakow Pl and I have driven there many times from Prague. Last time 2 weeks ago actually. I actually lived in Warsaw for 6 years until 3 years ago. Polish roads suck big time don't they
. The best stretch is between Katowice and Krakow on the Toll road for speeding. Do you go and pose outside Sparka cafe on weekend mornings. Heh, lot of people up their own rear ends there parking their exotic cars sideways so you can see their vanity plates
If you haven't seen it you should go and have a look
Too many drivers in the left lane not willing to move over - tell me about it
My top speed in my 99 C4 was 290km/h (digital speedo).
Usually I get a chance to go 230+ everytime I return from work. Don't need to drive during rushhour though.
Otherwise my top speed was something over 300 (didn't dare to look again after that) in my friends Aston Martin Vanquish
Can't beat the sound or the the impression on people seeing you in their rear view mirror.
Well for more than 240000 EUR ...
according to porsche yes....it is 280 .....always conservative....
no mods, bit of downhill though....
analogue speedo...so accuracy not 100%
there are also some other P-owners here that have gone beyond 295 klms/h....with fotos as well.....
277km on the Autobahn in my C2. 305km in a RUF R TURBO on small country roads in Phaffenhausen at RUF. The car was capable of doing 355km but not enough road in the area.
135 mph in an old VW Corrado SLC
140 mph in a 2000 Boxster S
120 mph in my 2000 911 Cab
...and the record?
175 mph on my 1994 Honda CBR (it was pretty stable, but I won't kid you: my helmet was definitely feeling some buffeting in the windstream)
Porsche speedos are definitely off at higher speeds.
I have had 175 indicated in my 993, but the fact claims 171,
I would have benefited from the passanger looking at a gps.
Typically, I think smooth and slow are preferable . . . .
I have hit 135-140 at the back straight of VIR and right before the bus stop at WGI. No room to go faster. Until I installed the factory carrera rear wing and front lip, my car "danced" at those speeds, despite the fact that my car had been lowered with PSS9s. I don't see how any of you guys can stand the feeling of the car above 140 unless you have aerokits. It does not inspire confidence IMHO. One gust of wind, deer, squirrel, etc . . and it would not be pretty. The car feels much more stable with the factor aero . . .
I know what you mean...and I
do
have the aero kit. It is possible that it is the undulations of the road itself (perhaps not felt so much at normal speeds) but on a few excursions, I found that at about 130, it starts to "dance" as you say. I've brought it to 150 where it felt like any more would be unsafe.
I guess my question is...
The "dancing" may have nothging to do with the aero kit, but for those with the adjustable rear wings,
how do you set them
? Mine is set "neutral", i.e., so that the edges of the wing are aligned with the top of the supports (looks smooth visually). This is how it was when I bought it.
It is a tradeoff. The aero components reduce your top speed. The more aggressively you set your wing, the more planted you will feel at high speeds, but the lower your top end will be. The top ends on these cars are ridiculously high, so, unless you are racing AND you find that you are losing time on the straights, you might want to set the wing to its most aggressive position. If you only use your car on the streets, then I would leave it in the neutral position because it looks the best.
I go 130+ several times a week and definitely don't feel like I have Mr Swayze locked up in my trunk. This must be a setup problem or the US-suspension (if you still have it)
Thorsten
Definately NOT a setup "problem," and I have PSS9s. Perhaps it is a question of the roads where the cars were driven, or even driver sensitivity.
Also, as far as I know, the term "dancing" refers to front end "lightness" rather than rear end instability. Since I only wanted to use wind tunnel tested aero parts, I stuck with stock Porsche aerokits, which included a front lip in addition to a rear wing.
P.S. I don't even want to know what made you think of Patrick Swayze.
I prefer to think of Alizee in my trunk.
it is funny because when i bought my car 996 C2 01 stock look, it was rock stedy at straight line...
now with 285 at the rear (instead of 265) and GT3 aero kit with no rear wing i.e sideskirts and front nose includind the front chin spoiler, someone would asume that with no rear wing downforce at the rear should be less than with the wing on it. this mean the car should be "heavier" at the front due to lack of the rear wing....
unfortunetelly the wheels steering now is dancing a bit (although the car is going straight) which in fact makes feel a little bit nervous....
do you guys know why this is happening to my car?
I don't know why, but I would put on the GT3 rear wing pronto. The entire setup is supposed to be rock solid, so if you have only the partial setup and you are uncomfortable, the solution seems to be pretty clear.
168.
ot: if you get a speeding ticket in california for 100+ (like i did) you wont do it again on a public hwy. i'm still paying for it in more ways than one. i got an insurance quote this yr at ~$7,000/yr
$7k. Ouch!
You can also do open-road racing. Many (esp. west coast) come to the open road rally (race for some) events that are run here in Nevada. They close down long stretches of roads to the public and do high-speed events, most are time/distance rallys. I have never done one, but it sounds interesting. We definately have lots of roads here in NV that are good for this sort of thing!
If anyone is interested, the organizers have a website...

Going to a Wedding Reception 155mph on LIE, Sh#@$ing a brick that I don't get pulled over! I also missed my exit by 3, wife was not happy! I'm curious what would one get if clocked at that speed in NY?
For thoughs of you that said the car dances at above 130mph when i was going 160 i was extremly stable and my car has no wing no aerokit no extra downforce things and i had winter tires on it at the time. the road i went that fast on was higgens here in shaumburg IL on the way to woodfield mall. everytime i get on that road the slowest i go is 100mph unless theres traffic the i go 90
.
Late for my wedding, I hit 140 on the Bruckner Expressway! Top speed I have reached was in Canada, on the acess road to one of the airports in Montreal. It was Sunday morning at about 9 am. The airport must close on weekends, as there was no one there and no planes at the gates. Anyway, two lanes, no turnoffs and no place to hide. hit 168 Remember, as I was pissed I didn't hit 170. Oh, then a cop pulled on the highway, now the only other car on the road and I was back to the speed limit.
