Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

#1 2000 Millenium Edition Coupe @ Swift Suzuki in Sacramento: 36K miles, lots of scracthes, two big ones on the bumper, needed tires, interior was filthy, missing the 1's on the 911 trunk emblem...you get my point, this wasn't a clean car.

#2 Same dealership has a 93 C2 Coupe with Tip and had been repainted Chameleon (multi-changing color) For grins I asked how much and he said $33K.

I had never driven one, so I thought I'd hit the dealerships at least to find one to test drive.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

to give you an idea, a few months ago I bought my 00' C2 SY 28K mi, full Aero, SY belts, SY Sport Seats, Hi Fi, Litronics, OBC, SD wheels, PSM, leather air bag, 3 spoke steering wheel, and leather air bag.
For $38K
No way a dealer is going to knock $10-15K off the sticker... some poor schmuck will probably pay $35-36K for it.
80K is about TWICE the miles you'd expect to see based on most '99s I've seen for sale. Why even bother given the potential maintenance issues?
I really aprreicate all the advice. I'm headed over to the dealer now, and then I have class, and a dinner date
I'll be back around 9:30pm EST and update everyone!
By the way, the guy who owns the use card lot, is the one and only owner of this car. So that could be the reason for the higher price. Also, they seemed interested in taking my '86 951 in trade.
(I'll try and sneak online during class and post what happens.)
I think vette is right.... No way are they going to knock that much $$ off. Dont waste you time!
99 and 00 911's are easy to come by.
Have patience young Jedi..
Long ago I learned its damn near impossible to find a "good deal" at a dealership on a used car, especially a high end or desirable vehicle. Mainly because if you don't want to give them what they are asking for it, then someone eventually will.
I have been trying to find a 996 for a week or so. I had never driven one, so I thought I'd hit the dealerships at least to find one to test drive. Here is an example of 3 911's I saw on the lot
Salesman told me they wanted $60K for it!!! He also told me only 20 were made (I had to correct him and show him the emblem on the dash that said 911 were made) Anyway he was shocked that I didn't want to come in and sit down and strike a deal. This dealership has a lot of beat looking late model high end vehicles, all over-priced.
#2 Same dealership has a 93 C2 Coupe with Tip and had been repainted Chameleon (multi-changing color) For grins I asked how much and he said $33K. I couldn't get off that lot quick enough.
#00' Speed Yellow Cabriolet 911 at Folsom Imports in Folsom, can't remember all the details, but well equipped and low miles. $50K
I just don't see how dealerships can get away with this stuff anymore, especially with the invention of this little thing called the internet and kelleybluebook.com Your best bet is to obsess over autotrader.com and cars.com and look for the deals there, 99% of the time the deal is going to be from the private seller. I have found a lot of decent deals in just the last week of looking on there.
I was at tweeks fun fest last year and a person there made a very good point. There is no "cheep Porsche" if you buy the high mileage car for 15k less than a low mileage car your looking at spending that 15k in fixing the problems within the first year. That said, look for what you can afford and buy exactly what you want, you wont regret it in the end.
I looked at cars for 6 months before going Certified Pre Owned. I was willing to pay extra to sleep better at night, but I'm super impressed with how solid these cars are - I may not have had to pay the premium, but oh well, too late, so I just drive and don't worry about it.
As for dealers, there is no need to be a car not under warranty from any dealer - you're paying to cover their overhead. If there is no warranty, buy a car private party - you can find deals with patience and persistence. Look at classifieds here, autotrader, cars.com, and ebaymotors. I did this every night for a while - to the point that my wife said, just buy a damn Porsche already! But I learned enough to know what I was comfortable spending.
You can find some really passionate car people who are getting rid of their used Porsche's for valid reasons that have nothing to do with problems. While there are no guarantees, you can get a much higher sense of comfort than you do from a used lot where you can't get a real story about how the car was treated previously.
This is not my post, so not a solicitation - just an example of what you can find quickly:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-...QQcmdZViewItem
It's a 99 Cabriolet with only 37,000 miles - listed for $38,500 (and it's a dealer listing), so you could probably get it for $36 or $37k - If you want a hard top, you can probably get a similar mileage car for low 30s at the most. Just giving you this example so you know that your local dealer is waiting for a sucker to walk onto the lot - or maybe he doesn't really want to sell the car and he's using it to generate foot traffic.
Yeh, I see those on eBay all the time. I'd much prefere to actually see/drive a car if I am to buy one though. Not that I don't trust eBay, but if I was to buy a car without ever seeing or driving it, it would have to be from a fellow RennLister.
Nevertheless, I won't drive anything but a coupe, and it has to be a manual. I'm looking to spend less than 30k for a 996. Otherwise, I'm not that picky.
