Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Do a quick check by lifting the battery lid to see if they actually put a new battery in there or just charged/replaced it with another old one.

$20000 claimed for front end damage at 20k and sold at auction as “accident repair” at 53k.

If you liked the car otherwise, go look at/drive it again and check to see if they actually replaced the battery.

Needless to say the test drive was cut short after the first two rough shifts and I walked away with absolutely no commitment whatsoever.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As a former lurker thru this forum I found it an excellent resource in trying to find my first Porsche hopefully a tip 996 c4s (that's about all I can afford) (tip because my wife will have to occasionally use it and she can't drive stick).
I've road tested two of them so far. One is a low mileage 56k kilometres the other is 120k. Both 2002 models, both look really good inside and out, no signs of leaks so at a first cursory inspection all is well... The higher mileage one shows maintenance history done with Pfaff here in Toronto, and there's nothing major on the list. The low mileage one shows no records whatsoever but it had an engine rebuild ( liners cracked). For what is worth the engine seemed, sounded and worked as expected.
On to my first question in this forum. The test drive of the low mileage one did not go well at all. The car started flashing "Brake distribution", ABS and PASM warnings and was shifting rough. On occasion all the warning dash lights would flash briefly when this shifting would happen. Needless to say the test drive was cut short after the first two rough shifts and I walked away with absolutely no commitment whatsoever. Funny thing the dealer calls me back and says it's been sorted, they blamed a flat battery and the car sitting in their lot in the -41C we had lately. They say the new battery made all the difference and the car is now behaving impeccably.
That, at least to me, sounds like a load of s..now...
Could something like this be actually true?
Any thoughts on this?
Thank you for your time.
That actually is a reasonable explanation for the issues you were experiencing. You'd be amazed at the kind of havoc a dead battery can cause on a modern car.
If you liked the car otherwise, go look at/drive it again and check to see if they actually replaced the battery.
tips are harder to come by (except for turbos, seem to be more of those) but usually the prices are lower. Just don't get in a hurry to buy. If you have any inkling of a reason that the car isn't right, it probably isn't.
I decided to actually take them on their offer. I have to see this for myself so I’ll go back to do another road test…
I’ll be back with details of how that went.
You might want to post your location, last few digits of the VIN and if you have the car fax, previous locations where the car resided. If it's sold through a dealer, most likely it's either a trade or they bought it at an auction.
This car could've been one of the member's here and they might be able to give you a bit of background info on it.
Just a thought...
Excellent idea, I’ll record the VINs of both cars I’m interested in and will post in here. Thanks for the suggestion. I somehow feel the low mileage one was a bit of a garage queen so perhaps the owner was not a member of this forum :-)
Why am I asking? Cause I bought my car a few months ago and I'm in T.O., so I'm wondering if maybe I've seen the car. And also to alpines point, maybe someone local knows the car, etc.... LOL, I'm not looking to poach it from you or anything.... Good luck and keep us posted!
A sad setback in my quest…
Long story short, I drove the car today and indeed there were no weird messages anymore, it had good acceleration, steering was sharp and brakes were good but the car pulled a bit to the right under hard acceleration and braking and the tip still felt perhaps a hair notchy. What was downright annoying was the broken windshield wiper on the driver side (looked stripped at the shaft as it would try to move) that left me with a muddy mess on my side to look thru. Funny they said the car was impeccable. Well, a short trip to CarFax revealed the car is pretty far from being “immaculate” or “mint”. $20000 claimed for front end damage at 20k and sold at auction as “accident repair” at 53k. A garage queen this car was not…
End of story as far as I’m concerned, but while wasting time checking this load of... ummm… snow, the other c4s I was looking for has sold.
Bummer… I was kind of sold on it and talked to Ryan over Autowerks about PPI (he’s a very helpful, knowledgeable and courteous guy BTW)…
So my search continues… Any of you good folk out there willing to part with a tip c4s in decent nick? You know… to help a member in need...? :-)
There is one coming up for sale in San Antonio, TX. Belongs to a customer of mine. It is very far away from you though.
If you wait a while and keep searching the right car will come through. Make it a fun event.
