Currently I have stock cats + FisterD mufflers and I'm interested to get the 200 cell cats. Have some concern about the added noise and losing low end torque. Comments?
Hey Pete, I sent an email to Darin a while ago but never got any replies. I know he's been doing this combo for the 993s and they sound awesome. Wonder if there's any reason why he doesn't offer the same for 996s.
Not sure. Maybe he does just doesn't advertise it. I have talked him a couple times....I called his shop and picked the phone right up. I might just give him a call and see what he says.
Darin just swapped my stock mufflers for a set of his modded ones at his shop. I have 200 cell cats and it is loud. I got the impression from his reaction that he thought it was louder then a car with the stock cats. Give him a call and see what he thinks, he usually answers the phone. Since he just did the work on mine last tuesday he should remember it. The blue 99 Cab.
I do like it, it's quiet when just cruising, no droning, but when I'm on the gas WOW.
As far as the low end torque goes the car came with Champion headers and the cats but with stock exhaust so if there was any low end lost from the cats I wouldn't have a frame of reference to tell. The car felt a bit faster driving it home but that was probably due to the extra sound. You really hear his mod on my car starting about 3K up to around 5.5K RPM, it was always fairly loud after that.
I have PSE with 200 cell cats. The FisterD is supposed to mimic the sound of the PSE so I imagine it's pretty close to mine.
A lot of people say it's pretty loud but I think it sounds good. It can get a bit tiring on long trips but honestly at highway speeds I hear the tires more than the exhaust.

I used to have that setup. Still no drone. At full throttle it can get a little loud but not annoying loud. No loss of lower end tq that I could feel.
It wasn't loud enough so I did go louder...

@Fernando, your setup sounds very nice! Was the car in redline almost when it was loudest in the video? Can see the smile on your face when you get in the car
Yes that was redline. I wanted to show steady cruising, acceleration under full throttle, and redline. But as I mentioned before at highway speeds the engine is pretty quiet and the tires make up the bulk of the noise.
It still does put a smile on my face. It might not be the fastest out there but at least it sounds that way
My father was in town yesterday so I picked him up from the airport in my car. When I hit the accelerator his comment was, "It sounds like a race car!" And this is coming from someone with an AMG at home. Plus if my infant son is crying when I put him in the car, once I fire up the engine he is all smiles. So mission accomplished!
Just installed (Nov.) the Brombacher x-pipe with 200 cell cats and this is with the Fister D mod. So far, only drive it the day it was picked up, then the ****ty weather set and and she is hibernating till Spring. On the day I drove it, the sound was awesome. Not too loud at all (and I have db restrictions to contend with at various tracks.......also hoping no issues with the aftermarket cats and emission inspections).......but the sound is intoxicating!
I agree. My bud installed FisterDs and FVD 200 Cell Cats. I got a ride three weeks ago before the cold weather hit. It was totally quiet and can have conversation when engine is not under load. Sounds great under hard acceleration and I have to agree with the "not loud enough" comment as a personal preference.
Excellent combo for street and will not get unwanted attention
I have the Fister D Titanium Sport Mufflers, and the Speed Venture X-Pipe with the high flow 200 cell cats. It is a little bit louder then with the OEM exhaust, but I like it. I compare the sound to "
SILK
". Don't know why, except that the sound is very smooooth
I had the Fisters installed when I was forced to replace my cats. I opted for the Fabspeed 200cel Cats. The sound is definitely louder but not offensive. At Idle its barely noticeably louder than just the Fisters alone, but stepping on the gas you can really hear the difference.

on this very topic if you are interested to read it. The 200cel is the way to go over stock OEM, mostly due to the cost difference.
