Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi,.. as per the title of this thread... I managed to curb my nice black Ruger Mesh wheels on my 996 pulling out of a parking spot. I had been in and out of airports for 12+ hours,.. was tired and not paying attention and "scrape!" The wheels (actually just the driver's front) aren't really damaged much but of course,.. there is not about a 1 foot shiny area around the very outside of the rim. I was wondering what I could do,.. and what others have done to resolve something like this. What I have been thinking of is perhaps just cleaning the area really well and using black Plasti-Dip? Does this sound feasible? It seems that the dip would be thick enough to hide the light scratches on the wheels but I've never used it so I'm not sure. What do y'all think? Would this work or should I go another route.. or should I just buy a 2002-2004 996TT with already good wheels? Thanks in advance! Bill

POST 2Original post

Your wheels will never be the same. You should find an '04 Turbo with low miles and not look back.

POST 4Original post

Agreed, they are totalled. You obviously need a TT. As mentioned above. Sharpie works wonders on black wheel scratches.

POST 6Original post

I vote to just get a touch up paint that has the pen type applicator and see what you can do with it. Plastidip will not match up if your wheels aren't matte.

POST 8Original post

Go for the TT. Im just waiting for my ashtray to fill up so i can salvage my car and buy a TT.

POST 9Original post

+1 for using a sharpie. It will cover up the blemish quite well and you won't be able to tell unless you're looking at it from less than 2 feet away.

Curb rash? nothng 5 gallons of gasoline and a match can't fix

POST 14Original post

Black is easy to fix, sand it smooth and respray the wheel with either a matte or semi finish. Insert index cards all around the whole wheel to prevent paint from getting on the tire. Like this: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/whe...rims-easy.html

Wish I would have known of the index card trick a few months ago when I touched up a wheel! Awesome trick. For the OP, clearly you need to replace IMSB.

POST 16Original post

The Goth girls use Black nail polish both matt and gloss finish. Maybe that would work as the touch up you need. Don't ask me how I know or I will hit you with my hand bag haha.
