Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Having said that, the PPI is just that - it is going to test and inspect things at a given moment in time.

Suggestion
When I consulted with the local recommended independent, it was suggested to:
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need some input or advice,
I understand that when looking for a Pcar get the newest you can afford is best way to buy, if everything is good with it. I think just about everyone would agree.
I am looking at a 1999 rite now. I am liking some of the diffrances they have over the newer ones. and yes I did research that too. I plan on daily driving it but I would also like to either autocross or track the car some in the future.
I know the ppi means alot and i know there will be alittle more maintance too just cause age.
So is it worth getting a 99 car or get a newer one.
I've heard from the shop that did my last ppi to stay away from the 99's, didn't get into detail.
from what I've read here they are more prone to cylinder cracks etc..
maybe someone with knowledge can expand.
I have a 99 C2 996 cab with 66000 miles on it. If I could have afforded the 997 I would have gone there. I would not however change mine for another 996 as the 99 IMHO has more going for it in reliability than other 996s. I would not even dream of tracking my car.
What a load of *****. Facts man Facts. Stay away from the shop that did your last PPI as they don't know Jack ****. They didn't get into details and you didn't ask? Load of old codswallop.Where's that effin wall?
well he's done a **** load of pp1's on 996's,
we spent a alot of time going through my ppi didn't have time to get into buying advice.
its the human condition to like what we have the best.
im really liking this 99

Search for a thread here on this forum called 1999 Advantages. Helped answer a lot of questions I had before buying a '99 - which I did and couldn't be happier with! Good luck.

In your case you want a 1999 model so if that is what you want then stay in the set look only in the set of 1999 used cars.
IOWs, If you want a 1999 model then get one.
A newer car may require -- at least initially (and maybe) -- less expense to keep on the road but it will cost more to buy and have more value to lose to depreciation.
I did read that thread, very intresting I will say.
I guess tracking was not the best choice to use, more along the line of just learning what the car can do and what I can do. I have done autocross before and it was a blast and I have taken a race class on a bike before, that was at Nelson Ledges and it was really intresting to learn what a bike was able to do
so I just think it would be the same for one of these cars.
Oh one more thing where is a good place to get a PPI done in Raleigh, NC
thanks
If the really early '99s are prefered by some then the one I drove home last week is one of the first ones (Jan.'98). To me the dual row alone is worth getting a '99.
getting a ppi done on it Friday morning, could be driving home Friday night.
the guys selling it because he bought a c4 coupe to match his wife's c4 cab.
ppi is at the shop where hes getting his sl 500 serviced, no shortage of cash on his part
From what I've read here, and I've read alot sounds like the 99 may have some good qualities.
I think im going to drain the coolant tank when i get one cause i like the air cooled option.
When I consulted with the local recommended independent, it was suggested to:
1. Start with 2002s because the 3.6 engine has sturdier parts
2. Ideally get a C4S because they have upgraded suspension, etc.
3. Stay away from super low mileage but don't go over 100k
4. Replace water pump every four years
5. Do the IMS when it needs a clutch
Obviously there are exceptions and the claims are unsubstantiated especially since there's no data that I have access to that tells me about issues by model year.
I know i realize that, i made the appointment, then called him to tell him where to go and he told me.
he had his ppi for this car done there, they also did the brakes and rotors on the car.
I figure he bought the car after there ppi on it so i imagine it passed ok.
I would think that there would be conflict of interest. Would have your buyer's agent sell your house?
If using the same shop is unavoidable, will you be using them going forward if you purchase the car? If so you should let them know this since you'll be spending $s with them in the future and they presumably don't want you going on about the stuff they missed in the PPI.
Having said that, the PPI is just that - it is going to test and inspect things at a given moment in time. No guarantee that anything won't break the day after.
