Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Long story short, my A/C compressor ate itself up one day and now it's 36 degrees and I don't think i'm going to make it to winter without getting this done right away. Pelican Parts is showing a single Denso compressor in their A/C list for the 996. Can anyone confirm that the 996 only uses a Denso compressor and they didn't switch manufacturers at some point? Some OEM's are notorious for this. Looking to get one for a 1999. Also, if anyone's ordered from Pelican before, is there a core charge on the A/C compressor? It says there might be but isn't specific. http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...VENTac_pg1.htm

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Closed on sundays. Figured I'd try here incase someone's done it before. Elsewise I'll call em 2moree.

POST 4Original post

Rockauto shows a Denso for that year too. Little less than $300 shipped after 5% coupon with no core.

POST 5Original post

I'm pretty sure Porsche only used Denso A/C compressors in the '99s. Just out of curiosity, is there some reason you can't just look at yours and tell what it is? It should have a plate on it labeled "Denso", if not it's probably already been swapped out once.

POST 6Original post

Yes, the Denso unit is the OE part and a core charge does not apply for the new compressor w/ clutch. The catalog did say 'may apply' but we have corrected that as it was confusing. Thank you for pointing that out! Mark/Pelican Parts
