Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
My 2002 996 Cabriolet top, which had zero problems previously, is now refusing to go past the halfway "vertical" position. It has no problem getting to that point or back to closed, and there is no squealing or lights flashing, it just refuses to move any further.
I know that the hydraulic fluid level can be an issue, but because it's moving fine otherwise, I am not targeting that first. I think it's a fuse relay, or microswitch somewhere that's not letting the top move past this point. Which ones should I check first?
Mine was doing this during cooler days. When it was hot it would work best. On Saturday i filled the fluid reservoir. It was very low and took 10tbsp of fluid. Now i enjoy its snappy goodness as it probably had when it was new.
Theres so much stuff that might be jamming it...as in my case, somebody either vandalized mine or something hit the corner and scratched it, causing it to close funny.
My best advice is take your time and examine it for things that may have worked loose and are now obstructing movement. The microswitches that go out would cause it to not move at all, so thats why i dont think its a switch. Maybe the cables on either side became loose from the sides and are looping out. They are wrapped to the brackets with this worthless cloth-type of tape. Once it comes loose it unravels and wont stick ever again.
The first week i had mine, the little plastic flap that pushes the cloth away from the deck hook came loose, so the cloth got pinched and torn. That was about as bad as it can get because i now have a torn top. Back then, it was all a mystery to me but after poking around i have become more knowledgeable.
it was a piece of rubber stuck in the latch microswitch.... took it out, but now the latch will not close automatically...... I will fix that though, just need to put a little shim in.
THanks for the help guys!
The center latch that grabs the top and holds it down on the roof? That thing is complicated and i priced it--it is expensive. Treat it with care. Cool that you figured out the binding.
