I was all over trying to decide what to do with my system....modify existing to accept ipod and bluetooth; replace with a double din touch screen; replace with single din.

You have to use the Aux in option on the Gateway 500 unit and it does not have any control.

Just took delivery of my 03 Coupe. The car is immaculate and I am very excited about everything except what appears to be the complicated, tedious and expensive mod to allow me to have a high quality connection for my Iphone (and potentially the Ipad Mini install I've read about). Before I make any decisions, can anyone tell me what I might expect the dealer to charge to program the CDR 23 to think it has a CD Changer to allow Denison install?

I am in the same boat. There are a ton of threads, but to be honest, i have not found a simple inexpensive approach. Will see if this thread might go in that direction.
Honestly I did it and it was one of the best mods I've done. Increased my enjoyment immensely. There are a few kits out there for installing (one in the dash and one for the oem speaker connector) - the dash one i got from euromotoraports on ebay the oem speakers i dont remember but if you like I can look for the model number (had to order it from the uk and do a small modification to it but avoided touching the factory wiring).
Anyway took me many hours - but worth it!!
I had mine programmed by my Indy at no charge. They are just enabling the CD changer. I had forgotten that previously! I would suggest you call Eric at Bumper Plugs (who has the best price on the Dension Gateway 500) and ask him to send you his installation instructions. Even if you don't do it yourself, you'll understand what is needed to install. It is really the only option if you want to keep the factory head unit. If you don't mind having to plug in your device (I prefer A2DP Bluetooth streaming myself), its a great solution.
Euro Motorsport only has MOST solutions for 997's and non-MOST 996's.
Forgot to mention, if you are looking to have an aux input without needing the ipod contorls, you can send your radio for it to modify it, but I think the Dension is a better solution just because it is more flexible.

Well i finally opted for a wicked kenwood excelon head unit with appropriate adaptors to hook up. Charged me $50 for that.
Took it out for an extended spin...first song that came on the radio was the new daft punk....cranked it...omfg. What an incredible difference over the stock hu that i thought was ok. No way. Wish i had replaced it much sooner than i did. The clarity and power all the way past 30 is incredible...the stocker wouldnt be able to come close without major distortion, especially in the mid range.

Nice single din hu...lotsa bells and whistles that i wont be using.
I have an 02 with the Bose system. Kept the amp and sub and its all perfect. Sorry no details on the electrical other than it was a vw compatible harness? They also had to go in and do some splicing to get the rear speakers to work.
All in all an awesome result.

I have ordered a Denison Gateway Lite and expect it to arrive sometime this week. I have also ordered an Ipad Mini mount from Pro-Clip USA. I had an Iphone 4s mount from them in my Audi (along with a Densison DICE) and the combo worked very well with their Bose system. Also, I contacted the local Porsche dealer and they charge $75 to reprogram the CDR23 to make it think it has a CD changer attached (required for the Denison).
To refresh. It is my understanding that the BOSE+ MOST issue doesn't arise until MY2003. I will let you all know how the install goes.

You can use a Durametric to reprogram, if you have one. Saves a few bucks if the rest is DIY. Might go towards justifying Durametric if you don't have one already. Where are you? Maybe another board member has one you can borrow. I met a guy locally in a parking lot and did his for him with my Durametric. Took 5 mins.
You have an 02. It is NOT a MOST fiber optic system like the 03+.
The original poster has an 03 which has MOST fiber optic system so it's a totally different setup from yours - hence the complication and expense.
Ya woops sorry...was thinking of that other thread where he was asking about double v single din....saw the bose part and posted.
But if you get the most rubbish sorted out the kenwood is still awesome
My Denison Lite unit finally arrived and with luck I can install it this weekend. Meanwhile, I ordered a Jabra FREEWAY Bluetooth Handsfree speaker that clips on the sun visor. I am extremely impressed with this unit. It is only slightly bigger than a garage door opener remote but has mini stereo speakers and streams a2dp from my iphone as well as handling calls. I can listen to podcasts and even music (though I wouldn't). I only mention it to compare it to the built in OEM blue tooth modules that I had in some of my other cars (Audis) and this is much much clearer for both me and the caller on the other end. I think this plus the Denison for attaching ipad or iphone for music and nav will be an excellent combo.
