Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

33 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-5W-30-5qt/17034372 Just picked up 2 jugs. Cheapest I've seen anywhere.

POST 2Original post

But shouldn't you be using up to 40w not 30w? I use 10w-40w as recommended. 5w to 40w is better I believe. Not that your engine will explode from using 30w lol.

POST 3Original post

Not going to get into a oil thread............but..... 5W-30 is too skinny no matter where it comes from. Hurdi...new car?

POST 4Original post

10w40 isn't Porsche approved the last time I checked but I'm not an oil **** like some so me no care.

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 10550831

I think its approved for warmer climates

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 10550855

Officially? The last time I checked the back of a m1 10w40, I did not see the Porsche rating on it. With that said, I know quite a few indies that don't mind using it.

POST 7Original post

I'm not sure about M1 specifically, I'm pretty sure 10-40 is mentioned in my owners manual (2004 40th Anni.)

POST 8Original post

I picked up 4 jugs last week. First time I've been in a Wally in months. Can't beat that deal.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 10551089

That's what I bought.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 10551097

That is what I use 0W40. I'll take a ride up there tomorrow. Thanks for the tip

POST 12Original post

996 in Texas makes a posting then that's all we hear from him as we discuss the ins and outs of viscosity of recommended oil used in the 996 engines haha. Typical. So let me get this right. Wally World are selling both Mobile 1.....0-30w AND 0-40w for $22 a pop? That's a great deal if correct.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 10551812

Correct! As you can see in the screen shot below, Wally has several different weights/grades of M1 on sale at that same sale price. I just ordered 10 jugs of 10W-40 High Mileage for store pickup later today. With a Boxster track car, I go through oil fairly quickly.

POST 14Original post

That's a great deal, even better than what Autozone usually has running ($29 for 5 quarts with an oil filter)

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 10551812

That's the deal. I bought four for my other car, too.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 10551818

That's a DAMN shame when gas around me costs more than synthetic oil at $5.25/gal for premium.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 10550888

Alpine003 is quite right. The M1 oil rating spec API SL,SM and SN is not on the recommended list in the owners manual. The use of a 10-40 weight oil is recommended in average temps above 50F with a spec of API SH or SJ. Actually it says 10-40 to 15-50 for that temp and above in my 2004 manual.

POST 19Original post

API ratings are alpha sequential... the 2004 manual could not list future API specs as S J was current and S H was previous as of the manual printing I believe... S L , S M , S N are all newer variants and M1 is on the Porsche approved oils list last time I checked. I personally snagged a similar deal on Motul 8100 Excess and have enough oil in my garage now for like 4 years... if I get anymore I'll be accused of hoarding by my wife and she'll call an intervention... time to get that additional garage built!

POST 20Original post

Note in my previous post I have a 2004 40th Anni. so that is the manual I'm referring to on page 152.

POST 21Original post

Forget the owners manual. it's a 10 year old book. Porsche recommends specific brands of 0w-40, 5w-40, & 5w-50 (Mobil 1 5w--50 only). That's it. No 10w-40s or 10w-30s. http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_3/P...oved_Oils.html view the A40 list. Put when it comes to the age of our cars, what Porsche recommends is only partially relevant.

POST 22Original post

I stopped going to Wally World when the ammo shelves dried up. Sigh

POST 23Original post

bought it too... for the touareg. Should get some for the next 996 oil change as well

POST 24Original post

Thanks for the post. Picked up some today. They also had some ammo in stock.

POST 25Original post

Here are the latest specs on Mobil 1 oil as of April 2013 http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...duct_Guide.pdf

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 10552448

where did you get the Motul 8100 Excess as that's what I am using in my car? I wouldn't mind getting a good deal on that stuff. I use the synthetic and buy from Amazon 4 jugs for $138..

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 10552448

I have a similar problem. The local Home Depot had a $1 per can sale on Sprayway private label glass cleaner, so I bought 60 of them. That was four years ago, and i still have 10 or 15 cans left. I wish I'd bought 160 of them.

POST 28Original post

Hi guys, just picked up some Mobil 1 at Walmart and for the first time they actually had 0W 40 in the 5 qt jug. Only $24.97, that's the cheapest I have found anywhere. Zenski

POST 29Original post

I just looked in my owners manual and no 10w is approved, 0-40, 5-40 or 5-50 if above -15 degrees. Dan

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 10555634

The car and manual are close to 10 years old and they've updated their list since then. I recommend you look at the latest list provided by Porsche to get more options or if you want to find alternatives than their factory fill.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 10555685

Here it is. http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_3/P...29_Page_01.jpg 0-40, 5-40 or 5-50 only. Dan

POST 32Original post

nice find.... been buying the big jugs of 15w50 sold at the superstores for years (for my nine six eight). the big Walmarts also carry jugs of 0w40 for the bugwagons. the regular prices have been hovering between $24.64 and about $26.00 for the last year. but I try to keep a lookout for when it goes even lower.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 10555797

You're right and I didn't really read your post correctly. I was partially referring to the many more options of other oils that Porsche has approved since the original manual. Porsche generally goes through the approval process every 2-3 years so even the one you linked with a 3/10 date might have updates since.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
