Hyundai is building some cool cars now - I test drove the Elantra before this, but this is more my style than the 4 door Elantra (which is still great).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I swear I was heading to get a quart of milk, but somehow this ended up in my carriage. I guess President's Day weekend towards the end of the month is a good time to buy. I traded in my daily driver 2001 Hyundai Elantra w/44K miles for this: Just got back - exhausted from the long day, but I really like this car. I can do cool stuff like start it up remotely with a web page/phone call, so when my train is 10 minutes away from the T-Station I can warm it up. I only have 21 miles in total on it - going to do some break in miles tomorrow. The overhead panoramic sun roof is cool, back up camera, NAV, Bluetooth, iPod, etc. I know they are coming out with the Veloster Turbo soon - I saw the Superbowl ad for it - but this is my main commuter car. It gets 38mpg highway, and the 40th AE 911 will continue to be my fun/weekend car. Hyundai is building some cool cars now - I test drove the Elantra before this, but this is more my style than the 4 door Elantra (which is still great). -Steve

POST 2Original post

Hyundai has been making some nice cars lately. I remember a conversation I had with my Japanese friend 20 years ago where he thought Hyundai was going to be the next Honda. I laughed in his face back then but now it looks like they are on their way. I've driven a Sonata last year as a rental car and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. A few years ago, I would've never mentioned Hyundai to any one of my friends or family but lately I find myself mentioning that brand as one of the options when asked for recommendations. With that said, Hyundai has generally been about following and copying others. Most of their recent designs have definite influences from other cars. I think for Hyundai to be more successful, they need to establish their own brand identity and break away from their typical mold. I believe the Volester is a great first step in doing that. Honestly, I thought the Volester was plain ugly when I first saw it but it has grown on me to the point that I like it. You have to admit that there aren't too many designs like it(whether it be for good or bad). And maybe it is this aspect that draws me closer to the car. The Volester definitley looks unique and independent. The only thing that might come even remotely close IMO is the Volvo C30 rear hatch(very minor resemblence). And with the Turbo model, I believe they can compete with the entry priced segment sport compact class cars like the BRZ / FRS which have been missing since the 90's. I'm not a fanboy or know of any friends or family that own Hyundai's yet however I am a car enthusiast and see a lot of positives coming from them. My $.02

POST 3Original post

I like the design... You barely see the 2 rear doors... Nice

POST 4Original post

sure...... you went out for milk.....yeah. If that's your story then I'm with you. Nice car BTW, I like the technology package.

POST 6Original post

Very cool car. I'm wondering about the visibility out the rear porthole, though. Does the back up camera stay on when you're going forward? The blind spots must be the size of Rhode Island.

POST 7Original post

I have a 2000 Elantra wagon that I bought new. Now has 170K and nothing has ever needed fixing or R&R. Original brakes even if you can believe that. Changed timing belt 1X and have changed plugs.

POST 8Original post

uh oh, now we're seeing all these Hyundai owners coming out of the woodwork... Maybe you guys should buy a bumper sticker for your Hyundai's...

Okay, I'll add my data point. Coming up on 5 years for the Elantra I bought for my daughter. I've replaced tires, brakes, and battery. Not a single warranty repair. Amazing value.

POST 11Original post

the 996 forum has become Hyundai chat... damn this economy! damn it to hell!!!

POST 13Original post

I had a Hyundai rental a year ago. I was impressed. My first experience with one is when my son had one as a DD years ago. It was pretty problematic and flimsy. About the same as when my little brother had an Audi Super 90. What a POS. Little did I know he would later become the GM of an Audi dealership, and now is selling Porsches.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the comments. The blind spot is not too bad - when you look out the back rear window, it is very open except for a small 2-3" bar that goes across is. There is a minor blind spot on the left or right if you look backwards when in reverse, but the backup camera helps, and the left and right mirrors are huge as the state of Rhode Island - so it's not much of an issue. Believe it or not, but I find the interior quality and electronic do-dads just as nice if not better than my old 08 Infiniti G37S. It even has the paddle shifters (although not made out of Titanium like in the G37). Very happy purchase, and the 3rd door is pretty cool - very useful and is on the side of the car that would be on the curb - makes it easy for rear passengers to get in and out, and the rear is very roomy with some decent cup holders back there too. The door handle is sorta built into the top of the door, so you don't really see it. On the driver's side it looks like a 2 door hatch. -Steve

+1, I agree 100% Mark!

POST 16Original post

That's a really nice looking car! Years ago Capital One had a car buying program called blank check or something like that. Anyway, there were rules you had to follow. The car had to be under so many miles, not older than a certain year and could not be a Hyundai. I swear, even if it was new you were not allowed to borrow money on one. Things sure have changed, they appear to be making some fantastic cars. I love it, the car looks like it's fun to drive too. You can start the car from the internet? That's pretty cool too.

POST 17Original post

That color looks familiar haha..hyundai has come a long way. I traded in my boxsterS for this one...I still have the 996

I know I'm old, but I like the fact that my 996 actually has a key. Nice looking car. It's still called a car isn't it? I guess Hyundai is the Honda of the new millennia.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9297785

Thanks.... well the BlueLink software page says Auto Start - Late Availability. I assume that means it will become available with a software update. It's not hard to add as a feature, because the car already has a proximity FOB, so you just get in and press the button to start it. I assume they can program it to make the same contact as pressing the button does to start your car remotely. That's my guess, and I think it's going be something like that.

POST 21Original post

OK! How do I get more HP out of my 2011 Sonata? Intake/exhaust maybe a chip? I do have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS. Great little car. But I do LOL at the Sonata Forums, with guys "modding" their little Sonatas. Talking about suspension upgrades, headers, CAI...........some funny chit!

POST 23Original post

A genesis coupe surprised me on the highway recently. That's all I'll say... BTW, are both front doors the same length on both sides for the Volester?

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes - they are the same length to the best of my knowledge, without breaking out the tape measurer.
