It's my first new set since getting the car and I *WAS* going to do some online research and go to tire rack, but my hand has been forced!

Suggestion

get the cheapest ones with that rating as the differences among tires these days is so small, it will not really matter (especially since you do not do any track use)...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I caught some road junk on Sunday evening on the drive home and blew the hell out of my rear tire. Rim looks okay (in the dark), but the tire is beyond gone. Got the donut on and limped to a friend's house. It was about time for new tires anyway - I need a set of rear's for sure and wouldn't mind doing the front at the same time also. I'm from Santa Barbara, so I'm looking to get some new shoes ASAP so that I can head back home. Anyone have a recommendation in the vicinity of Mountain View/Sunnyvale? Also, if you've got any tire recommendations, I'm all ears. It's my first new set since getting the car and I *WAS* going to do some online research and go to tire rack, but my hand has been forced! Mine's a 996 C4, daily driver - no track use. Many thanks for any help!

POST 2Original post

any tire with an "N" rating... get the cheapest ones with that rating as the differences among tires these days is so small, it will not really matter (especially since you do not do any track use)... The "N" rating is important because the side wall stiffness matters for the weight distribution on our cars, also, by "N" rating, I am not referring to the speed rating of the tire, "N" is the designated letter for tires approved for Porsches.
